       Head Coaching Search

Anyone got ideas on the type of coach or actual person SH will
hire? Maybe Priore has a basketball coaching friend SH can hire
       to drive Hammer crazy. ;)
I think SB selects another Power 5 Assistant.

one unrelated thought. does this end up costing us money,
perhaps saving? maybe it depends on what the contracts say.
meaning, if money was freed up to let's say replace priore (as
many here have argued- im not necessarily one), does this now
       impact that?

I read somewhere that Boals' buyout was $ 50K, so that should
pay for majority of the search fee, unless their prices went way
       up.
Geno will be a one-game wonder after last night (not that he was
a candidate in SH's mind), and no way Jay Young comes back after
       being rejected once already.
As I said on another thread, I'd pay up for a quality HC that
has Long Island roots. These P5 AC hires will become shorter
and shorter rentals, especially with almost everyone back next
year. Gotta think about it some to suggest some names.

Just curious, OldSeawolf or anyone with knowledge or opinion,
does SUNY or the league set any limits on a HC salary? Do you
run into, well... problems, if you can or do offer a HC at SBU
near or well over what the president makes or well, WELL over
what any other HC in the league makes?
I have to assume reasonable economic realities come into play,
and other coaches around the league, for example, probably
understand and are okay with the SBU coach getting a little more
in salary. But two or three or more times more?
Just wondering if SBU is of the opinion that funneling more
money overall into men's hoops is a possible answer for greater
success (as money is often one of or the key to these things),
are their hands tied in any significant way considering all
       things about their current situation?

       Fred,
Fair question, and I really don't know. Of course, assuming you
can increase salary as high as desired, you run the risk of
throwing the balance of salaries out of whack, and annoying the
other sports programs' coaches - that is always a risk. I'm
guessing, but I may be wrong here, that the Bball HC job pays
more than what Stanley makes currently, and more than the AD.
Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong here.
At the end of the day, money talks, and well, you know the 2nd
       half of that expression.....

I spent a few minutes on a quick search, which is probably not
entirely accurate and I know, too, sometimes other money gets
funneled in from other places, but near as I can figure,
       ballpark:
       Stanley makes around 700K
Other MBB coaches around the league are 250-300ish
Wasn't Boals in the high 300s?
Couldn't find a number for Heilbron with a quick search, but I
think all SBU salaries are publicly posted somewhere....?
Anyway, are those numbers close? I don't know....

OK, here's the NY State link:
  HTML https://www.seethroughny.net/payrolls
According to their DB, Stanley pulling in $ 448K. Heilbron $
355K. Maybe they have additional performance incentives.
Boals' base was $ 375K with some incentive money that could have
brought it up to $400K. Odom is at $425K. Brown at $ 350k.
Becker I'm sure is in that range. Rest of the league, probably
       lower.

Good find, thanks. Re Stanley, I saw several sources noting that
SUNY salary plus some other "foundation" money that kicks his
salary up to near or about 7. Of course I know coaches filter in
       money from elsewhere too.

Anyway we can steal Nathan Davis from Bucknell? I think he is a
great coach. Not sure about recruiting. He has a high ceiling.
But probably waiting for a high major offer.
I would offer $400k to next coach. And another $400k bonus for
each NCAA appearances. $400k bonus is well worth comparing to
how much free publicity and fame going to dance brings. Zero
       bonus for anything else.
