Heilbron delivers the news. Will he go with Geno Ford, who has
lots of head coaching experience, in an attempt to maintain
continuity with this core group, or will he look to the outside
again (recall how he passed on Jay Young when Pikiell bolted)?
Hard to compete for any existing quality HC’s with what SBU pays
in the AE. Will prob be Geno Ford or some Top Assistant looking
for a break into HC ranks. If the latter, look at it as another
3 year rental. On another note, I heard Nick Macarchuk is
available.

Geno Ford sucks. He is NOT a HC, caliber coach. He sucked wind
at Bradley when he was HC there, and his record was brutal.. If
Jay Young does not take the bait to be SB next HC, SB will have
to open theor wallets and go all out on a high major coach to
save face..

Hammer, Geno had some tough years at Bradley, but had some
success with other programs earlier. I’m sure being from OH (and
prob being recruited by Boals now) and his recent HC experience
will work against him remaining. But, he may have a solid
relationship with Heilbron perhaps.
In regard to Jay Young, he was already passed over by Heilbron;
can’t see him being offered and/or crawling back, unless he was
really unhappy at Rutgers.
I’m betting on another high-end assistant being recruited. I’m
also betting that Akwasi is now gone (either going Pro or Grad
transfer to a major program).

I was not in the fire Boals camp, but it seems people got what
they wanted regardless. Without paying for severance. The Bingo
defeat was very bad. But I would have loved to have Boals
continue another couple of years before making a decision on
him. But he didn’t give us the chance. Oh well.
It’s a set back. It will slow down the momentum Boals was
building. He brought in some solid recruits. I really hope they
don’t follow him to Ohio.
It’s starting from scratch again.

Go out and get a get a very promising AC from a Power 5 program
and pay him. Boals blows for bailing on his recruits. And I
was a fan.
Anyone want to bet he was bailing before the Bingo game and the
players knew it? If so, good riddance. Totally sketchy move,
if true, and it would be tampering on Ohio University’s part.

Good riddance!
He couldn’t win 1 big game at home.
He couldn’t control his players with their ridiculous chucks
beyond the 3-Point line.
None of his players improved.
Bye-bye!
Get a young, tough guy from the northeast, not some hillbilly
from Ohio.

In many ways college coaching is all about recruiting. I thought
Boals did very well in that regard lately. We had more talent
on our roster than any AE team (including UVM, IMHO). That may
have meant more to Ohio than a few bad losses (after all, we did
have some good wins).
