Educate me. Olaniyi makes a free throw with 41 seconds left,
Albany calls timeout with 15 on the shot clock, then get it
across with 13 and a foul is called on Cornish. How is that not
a 10 second violation?

nice game UA.
positives- kwas looks back to 100%. we had probably 4 dunks
tonight. VT loses. otch asserted himself a bit more on offense
(still a work in progress). fought to the end.
the bad- FTs. giving up uncontested 3s. freshman lit us up off
the bench. our hands. three point shooting. our options at the
5.

What a bad loss. Horrible ft shooting, got out coached again by
Will. Only way we get the 2 is by winning out, I believe.

Despite all of that. If we hit a few more free throws we

Can't win if you miss 50% of your free throws. Anyone really
surprised? We've been struggling against bad teams for a while
now, this was due. Kwas looked good, at least. On a different
note, some funny chants by the UMBC fans tonight in their win
against Vermont.. Sang "Mary Had A Little Lamb" when Lamb got a
charge/shot FTs. Chanted "he's a fresh-man!" when Eytle-rock
burned Ernie Duncan on a layup. ( I wish our fans cared enough
to do that.)

If you were at the game, you probably heard me yelling at the
refs and asking the same question. 30 secs left and Clarke
calls TO at 23 second mark. In NCAA, I believe that resets the
backcourt 10 second clock. Then I think Will calls TO off the
inbounds after 8 secs expire (down to 15). The refs looked at
each other as if a 10 sec violation should be called, but I
think Brown called his final TO. Stupid rule that TO's reset
the 10 second clock, but clearly Brown out-coached Boals in that
last minute. No way Boals can let 15 seconds run off the clock
without committing a foul, and down by 2 possessions. Did the
TV commentators see it any different?

Somehow I had no clue that it reset. I knew it had to be
something because nobody else - including those who know way
more than I do - was up in arms about it.

Albany is one of the best in Div 1 in the country at getting to
the line and scoring. So we gave them more than a few
opportunities. Boals should have know that I know our guys
didnt.

At first I thought one of the refs called a tie-up (jump ball)
with possession arrow going to Albany, but then they huddled and
one of the refs pointed to Brown, as if giving him the TO. I
think that's what happened - maybe I'll check out the replay
tomorrow to verify. Anyway, it's a stupid rule, and to be
totally honest, I was not aware of the backcourt clock reset
either - I was texting my son during game, and he's the one who
let me know. Obviously, Brown knew what he had in the bank and
knew what he was doing down the stretch, and Coach Boals wasn't
aware of the Albany TO situation., because he was clearly
playing for the 10 second call on both of those last plays that
led to the TO's.
The UA guards killed us all night, and except for Akwasi, we
showed nothing on the offensive end. So surprised that SBU
didn't feature Akwasi down the stretch; I don't get that. And
those FT's.........ugh.
If things stay the same, and there's still a long way to go, we
may see these guys again at our place in the first round. And
we know how dangerous a game that is.
