I'm having a hard time getting up for this game. But it's not me
you have to worry about. Can our team, fresh off an enormous win
at URI, refocus and go into a decidedly less hostile environment
to keep the good mojo going? I just wonder about practice. What
did the coaches use as motivation to get the guys to understand
that this one's important too?
If you got worked up about the Molloy game, imagine your first
three home games (and only wins of the year) being against
Mid-Atlantic Christian, Clarion and now Regent. Let's hope they
don't add Stony Brook to that list.
It can definitely happen. When the ball goes up Tuesday, it will
have been just 10 days since our previous meeting, and they'll
have a little extra motivation having come up on the short end
at Mohegan. This time we also head into their lair, where they
went 7-2 in conference last year. Mind you, I'm less concerned
with a rowdy crowd than what will surely be a quiet affair.
Echols Arena seats 4,500 people, and a mere 656 showed up for
the big win over Regent. It was Faculty and Staff Appreciation
Night. You know the saying: (in so many words) it's not what you
do when you're in the spotlight; it's what you do when nobody's
watching. Well, nobody's watching. Let's get it done, guys.
NSU almost nipped us in our first meeting, having held a lead
with three minutes left before we closed on an 8-1 run. If you
recall, Cornish hit a rare yet massive three from the left
corner to undo a 64-all tie, and then five straight from
Olaniyi. We dominated on the glass (38-23), an effort that has
helped us climb to 18th in the country in rebound margin at
+10.5. The only other major category where we rank in the top
50? Free throw percentage, where our .769 clip has us sitting at
28th. We went 22 for 28 in our first meeting with NSU.
Anyone have a scoop on Olaniyi's status for Tuesday?
My lines – mainly for my amusement – have been pretty close to
what KenPom spits out. I take a stab at it before looking at
what KP has. I'll take a two-point win, that's for sure.

Am reliably told he was kept out against URI for a concussion
sustained on the hard flagrant he took at the end of the Molloy
game. Possibly back by Tuesday's game, likely by Saturday's at
home against Quinnipiac.

Unless this game is added late to ESPN, the only way to watch is
through Checkmates' stated link above, and the cost to watch
their stream is $5. Just giving everyone a heads-up.
BTW, was that RI color guy last game a real dimwit or what? I
know he was about 16 years old, but he never saw a 10-second
back-court call in his life? Com'n man!

The color guy was brutal, he kept blaming poor shooting for loss
and would not give us any credit. Stony Brook had a poor season
last year and are now starting to opening some eyes. These
announcers do not know what to make of it. I cannot wait to see
this team when they learn to play together.

Good info here, DC, thanks. I had forgotten about that foul ...
which when it happened I thought was a hard foul but not
flagrant. We never saw a replay. Maybe it was.
Sometimes we forget that we need to think about the big picture
here. Every game matters, yes, but January is when we need all
hands on deck.

NCAA.com has us ranked at # 152. By far, the best ranking of
any AE team:

This game really scares the daylights out of me.
I know that in the grand scheme, it doesn't matter, that we need
to win the AE title to get in, but still, a win is a win is a
win is a win is a win, and we had a win against these guys a
week ago, and it's human nature not to get up against them at
their place, no matter how well we've been playing.
I hope I'm wrong and we blow them out of the water.
C'mon Seawolves!

No question about it. We had to feel pretty good about ourselves
after beating South Carolina (which lost by 20 at home to
Wofford last night btw) and may have thought that less than our
best would still do the job at Mohegan. Au contraire. Pure
conjecture of course, but if true, let's hope that, after
beating URI, we prove to have learned our lesson and take care
of business tonight.
