It's possible we still play really well down the stretch and
finish in the 8-3 to 7-4 range to make the playoffs, but unless
Air Force really is just that good this year, that might be a
bridge too far. Let's start by taking care of business against
Bryant, then Fordham to hopefully be 2-1 heading into CAA play.
By the end of the month we'll know what kind of team we've got
and what our postseason chances will be like. Villanova looks
legit this year and we have yet to beat them in CAA play.
That'll be a game I want to get.
Villanova was looking great last year, they won their opener,
lost to a Temple by a mere 3 points, then demolished Lafayette
59-0 and then were hit by the worst injury bug you've ever seen.
Everybody hurt but the equipment manager was their coach's
quote.
If they are healthy, they will be very strong (as shown by
beating Temple). Certainly a tough game for us down the road.

Villanova will be tough as will James Madison and Delaware.
Plenty of room for improvement for our team but we cannot go 6-5
or worse this season . As for FBS we are headed in that
direction sooner rather than later ll our facility improvements
are directed toward attracting a low level FBS conference
invite.

First off. What FBS conference would even consider SB as a full
member? MAC, Conference USA?; SB, would have to go independent
for a while . But poor performance won't even get you an invite
to play up against tougher OOC FCS teams !
There's something this board needs to understand once and for
all; moving up to FBS has nothing to do with on the field
performance . Conference moves of the past were largely driven
by geography, academics, and TV markets, all of which SBU has
working in their favor. I want SBU to move up, compete at the
highest level, and get the exposure that comes with that, but I
don't believe we need to win an FCS title before we get an
invite. Conference moves are a multi-decade commitment on the
part of the conference extending the invitation. Smart
commissioners, ADs, and presidents don't make moves like that
based on a couple years of success.

I would love a move to FBS eventually but that's way down the
road. I think it will happen some day.
I think the defense did the best it could- that wishbone offense
is really hard to defend if you don't see it and Air Force runs
it well. The defense had to battle bad field position all day
and those kids were gassed. Carbone really needs to have a
better game next week- Bryant has played us tough recently. I
don't think I will be able to make it out to the game next
weekend unfortunately but will be at Lavalle at some point soon.

In the FBS though, we'd be getting the talent to compete with
those teams.
but that's an assumption; what if it doesnt happen?
we already struggle to get a decent QB these days. going 2-10
is gonna help that?
umass is the cautionary tale. buffalo to an extent too. and
they have recruiting advantages over SB, i think.
i dunno how much the attention the most minor of bowl games
gets, considering half the teams go to bowl games.

100 Yards with Stony Brook Head Coach Priore

Coach Priore had some interesting comments like they were
prepared correctly and give little credit to Air Force. Air
Force beat SB down, plain and simple. Its the same basic 101
offence you learn in Pop Warner football with little energy on
the team. You cannot loose 38-0 and say the way I look at it it
was 21 nothing game. No it was a 38 to nothing game! Time to
move on, we have a great opportunity with what is going on with
the university and need a real coach now regardless of our
record this year.

I actually rewatched the game early this morning today. I find
it better to see things you originally missed. With that said, I
still believe coach P is making all the calls. A very high
percentage of the offensive play calling was up the gut with
Liotine, gaining virtually no yards.
SB Offensive line is huge, NFL type size but was unable to move
the D line all day. Size is not everything in Football. AF line
is all sub 300, but athletic.
SB Defensive line did well consider they were out on the field
for the majority of the game.
Carbone is brutal. Majority of his throws were the classic
Carbone style. High and over the head exposing the receivers
ribs. If he continues to do that all season, these poor kids are
going to get seriously hurt.
Coach P does not know how to prepare his athletes. I contribute
that to his stubbornness to change and allow someone else to
make a change. Or he just does not have the know how to turn
good athletes into a great athlete. Hence the 0 football players
in the NFL from SB

Bryant is not going to be a cupcake. If the game is close or
we lose and go 0-2 on this young season we are in trouble.

And if SB loses against Bryant then I would rather see this team
go winless, for obvious reasons!

If we lose to Bryant, we might as well shut the whole thing
down, fire Coach P, play the young guys to see what talent we've
got in the program, and start interviewing new hires. That's by
far the easiest game on the schedule. Fordham is on the road and
won't be a gimmie given the intrastate dynamic.
