“It was the second-fewest yards ever by an opponent against Air
Force in the Academy’s history. The record low was 66 from San
Diego in 1956.”

Two years ago we were blown out by FBS Temple by an identical
score. We finished that season 5-6. Hopefully we are not looking
at that sort of a season record this year.

In a funny way, it would be the best thing for the team going
forward.

Not funny, but true if this program can have a coach take it to
the next level.

I think we beat Bryant and Fordham hopefully. The test will
come with Richmond and Villanova at the end of the month.
Villanova beat Temple yesterday .

I was at the game yesterday as I was on the sidelines so I saw
first hand the expressions on the players faces all day as they
came on and off the field and while it was gut wrenching to
watch the players never stopped trying. Joe Carbone had a bad
day, the OL had a bad day (as they were beaten off the ball on
every play), the receivers ( dropped several passes) had a bad
day, the coaches had a bad day. The defense played a lot better
then the score indicates especially the DE, LB's and DB's. The
middle of the DL has to do a better job, however after saying
that the Mountain West (where AF is in) has a tough time with
defending the triple option.
To Coach P's credit he didn't get on the Bus and scream at
everybody but instead will wait for practice to fix what has to
be fixed and get ready for Bryant next Saturday and I expect the
team to be very fired up.
Coach P will be back next year and why do I say this because
he's recruiting like he knows he'll be back and everyone from
top to bottom wants him back.

That Temple team won The American and was ranked heading into
their bowl game. Let's see if Air Force is in a similar
situation.

Campi, sadly I think you are correct about coach P returning
next season. Even if SB goes winless. Why?, I have no idea. He
could be loved by the entire school, but if his job performance
is underperforming then the school should NOT extend his
contract.
If Heilbron is trying to make SB a football powerhouse then the
change needs to begin from the top.
Losing to FBS AF is not a barometer to what the rest of the
season is going to look like, but from the little that we
saw of Carbone and the rest of SB offense,it's going to be a
long season ahead

It's possible we still play really well down the stretch and
finish in the 8-3 to 7-4 range to make the playoffs, but unless
Air Force really is just that good this year, that might be a
bridge too far. Let's start by taking care of business against
Bryant, then Fordham to hopefully be 2-1 heading into CAA play.
By the end of the month we'll know what kind of team we've got
and what our postseason chances will be like. Villanova looks
legit this year and we have yet to beat them in CAA play.
That'll be a game I want to get.

not a total loss- didnt we get $700k??? ::)
this is the kinda game that makes you think twice about the jump
to FBS.
So you're second guessing being able to recruit the talent to
win a game like this? I don't get the logic. This has nothing to
do with FBS. Today was just bad. Whether you point the finger at
the coaching, the offensive line, or Carbone is of little
consequence. It was a bad day all around.
no, but i do think we sometimes struggle with recruiting. the
service academies have struggles- although different- but a
similar social setting to SB. the reason i mention FBS is
because we talk about the jump, but imagine this 10-11 weekends
in the fall.

In the FBS though, we'd be getting the talent to compete with
those teams. We'd be on the same level rather than "playing up"
for games like this. Remember that only a year ago we were tied
with a ranked FBS South Florida team in the 4th quarter. SBU
recruits top 20 classes in the FCS, so it's not even a talent
problem.
If we go 6-6 in the FBS, we get to go to a bowl that if nothing
else garners national eyeballs for the couple hours we're on TV.
If we go 6-5 in the FCS? We don't get jack. I'm 110% in favor of
FBS.

First off. What FBS conference would even consider SB as a full
member? MAC, Conference USA?; SB, would have to go independent
for a while . But poor performance won't even get you an invite
to play up against tougher OOC FCS teams !
