Hoping UC is okay.
Well, all I can say after the two recent wins and this game is
that without a doubt SBU can play with anyone in this conference
come playoff time. If I was the higher seed in the first round
or any round, I wouldn't want to play them.

Boals didn’t sound any kind of alarm in the postgame, and it’s a
good sign that he sat on the bench with the team the rest of the
way.

I didn’t watch but the box score shows 40 fouls, in 40 minutes.
A foul a minute. It doesn’t take a math major to understand the
refs are ruining the college game. It’s the sports equivalent of
watching paint dry.

Those two calls near the end were certainly questionable and
potential momentum-stallers for SBU. That charge call off the
alley-oop dunk felt like SBU's last gasp to turn a tide that
seemed to have turned. Too fast/bang-bang for me...tough call
for SBU...anyone see a slow replay and have an objective opinion
from that?
UVM had their share of questionable calls too, so not sure all
that made a difference in the outcome. With SBU missing what we
have to assume would have been some UC points and defense plus
UVM experience/poise at the end to control the clock and shut
the door, in the end the outcome felt about right for me on this
night.
Other than FT shooting (which is nice to see an improvement)
just another poor shooting night for SBU from the floor. Even
with all above, if SBU just shoots reasonably well from the
floor they're probably right there at the end of this one. No
doubt that's exactly what will shake things out for them in the
playoffs--keep up the solid defense, knock down FTs, and shoot
reasonably well from the field (about 43% in the UNH/UMBC wins
vs 37% against UVM) and maybe they make a run. Simple, right?

To be honest, and I'll get slack for this comment but, Petris
really is better off sitting out this next game against UA. He
is brutal and has a very low BB IQ. He was taking 10' hook
shots and missing miserably. He even missed on a 12" layup and
turned the ball over about 7 or 8 times.. He cant rebound and
makes horrible fouls. You can thank Petris for the horrible
FT%... He will not be missed when he graduates, not from me
anyways!!!

Have to disagree, Hammertime. I think he's improved his post
game immensely from his freshman year. He's not very athletic,
but he's a big body and decent rebounder, has a ton of heart,
and his bball IQ has gone up during his tenure at SBU. He
missed a few relatively easy shots last night, but he wasn't the
only one. He needs to be in the lineup, IMO, during the
playoffs, and needs 18-22 minutes at that.
I actually liked our Senior starting lineup last night, and
assuming UC is ready to go, that's who I'd start. Olaniyi and
Yeboah off the bench at the first tv timeout, for Sturdivant and
Sekunda, to change the pace of the game and keep them on the
floor since they are both foul prone. Limit McKenzie and
Cornish to under 20 minutes each. This all assuming UC is a go.

I'm sure we've all got our wish lists for players, and I've got
mine. No doubt if we compared we'd agree on most things, too.
And I also think, because I wouldn't have the foggyist
otherwise, that most players are probably putting out and
improving at a rate about what they're capable of. The real gist
of all this probably goes right back to recruiting and who SBU
can realistically get to come here.
Blatantly obvious, I think, but:
1. We gotta roll with what we have.
2. In certain situations and against certain teams (UA being
one) our "bigs" (which is really just Petras and Ochefu) have to
play, and that points back to #1.
3. My overall thinking heading into the playoffs... If SBU gets
two players to have higher-impact games (primarily with points
I'd say, and that would include the small group of Yeboah, UC,
Olaniyi, maybe Saintel and very maybe Cornish) and if pretty
much everyone else is serviceable, they can win on Saturday and
then who knows.
4. If #3 doesn't happen (only one guy has a higher-impact game,
bigs are completely non-serviceable, other "shooters" put up
oh-fers and the team is a non-serviceable 35% or below...) they
are done after Saturday.

I agree with the board that if everything goes right SB could
come out of Albany with a win. Olaniyi is improving every game.
Assuming UC comes back healthy, that gives SB three scorers.
That's all you need. Last night it seemed only three Vermont
players shot the ball. That's why I like MacKenzie. While he
does not provide much scoring, he rarely forces a shot. He does
a decent job setting the offense and is rarely the reason for a
turnover or low percentage shot.

I agree with you on most point, but Petris really should not
even be in the game. He does have a lot of heart, and is the fan
favorite, but i am talking about SB basketball, not some fashion
show.. I am not picking on him personally, just pointing out
facts. My seats are on the floor and I have a really good field
of vision on all players. Petris is constantly never where he
belongs, ie; near the basket for rebounds, he struggles against
much smaller competition. His Hook shots are just so erratic. He
cant jump, slam the rim, rebound, defend, and these are all
obvious observations the average Joe can see.
Petris did improve a little in year 4, but come on! I could
improve my BB game after four years to. And i am no spring
chicken!!!

I’ve been critical of McKenzie, but I thought he played at a
faster pace yesterday than I’ve seen of him. Maybe going against
Bel-Haines had something to do with this. I don’t need him to
score; just high on the Assists and low on the TO’s. Right now
I’d play him over Cornish, who’s TO + Foul total always seems to
exceed Assists+Points.
