So by beating UMBC, we guaranteed that it won't be a 20-loss
season. Not this major feather in your cap, but better not to
have a number in the 20s on the right side of your record. But
even bigger, we somehow have a chance to get to .500 in
conference with what would be an enormous conquest this weekend.
Yeah, Vermont's AE win streak was snapped by Hartford on Sunday,
but let's not lose sight of how dominant they have been – 13
conference wins, TWELVE by double digits. If you take it back to
last year, 26 of their 32 conference wins (including the
tournament) have been by 10-plus. I'd love to see how that
stacks up against the rest of the country. I don't think any of
these tournament teams would be too excited about seeing the
       Catamounts in a 5/12 or 4/13 matchup – I can't see them being
higher with only one top 100 win (#91 Northern Kentucky on a
neutral floor). And this is without Anthony Lamb. Can you
imagine how dangerous they would look if he was healthy???
We've done an excellent job on the defensive side of the ball
the last couple games, holding UMBC under 60 and stymying UNH in
the second half. This isn't news to anyone, but we have to give
an A effort to pull out a W on Saturday. The crowd needs to be
loud and proud. That energy can make a difference.
The guy I hate seeing in our building? Ernie Duncan. He hasn't
been the 20-point-a-game guy that I thought he'd be, but he's
had field days here before – 23 two years ago, 22 last year.
Duncan only had 11 in the conference title game here a couple
years ago, but I recall thinking, from a UVM perspective, that
they needed to "GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL!" He had eight in the
first half, and not enough touches in the second half as we made
       our comeback.
We know what we're going to see from a lot of these guys, but
UVM has really gotten some big efforts from Urquhart over the
last month. He's strung together eight consecutive double-digit
scoring nights, easily the longest of his career – he'd had just
11 such games over his previous three seasons in Burlington.
Over the eight-game stretch, he's averaged 15 points and 7.5
boards, a very nice contribution on the block for an AE guy.
Vermont shoots better than 40 percent from three. Get out and
       defend, boys.
And lastly, I'm on a roll with guessing these lines!

A know a couple of good wins can color one's glasses in all
matters, but I like what Boals seems to be doing in terms of
tightening up rotations. I suppose matchups/fouls could dictate
otherwise, but it appears he's trimmed off Almonacy and Garcia
completely for the year and he's down to 10 which I have to
assume is the final tuneup for the only potential path to
success left--getting at least one AE playoff win (which would
be a success this year) and anything beyond that is something
       between excellent and a miracle.
From what I gather UVM has locked up #1 in the conference, but I
wouldn't think that means anything regarding this game. If SBU
keeps it close down the wire or anything better, I'll reopen my
       mind to believing.
PS, I don't keep up with these things, but I seem to recall
hearing way back that Lamb *might* come back for UVM this year
late? Is that still possible, or is he done?

i think if sturdy gets 25min and he spends most of it at the top
of the key behind the arc, we get crushed on boards. we'll
likely get crushed on boards anyway. which means we will need
to shoot lights out because we aint getting second chances. and
we dont always shoot lights out.
       GO SB

I'm going against the grain and be perfectly fine with VT taking
this one. IF SB wins it will feel good for a day, but doesn't
mean much for this season. VT has a chance to represent the
conference as a 13 or even 12 seed in the NCAA tournament....and
maybe actually win a game. If they lose a conference game at
this point it could cost them a spot or two in the seeding.

UVM is third in the league in board and we're fourth. They're
LAST in offensive rebounds and we're first in part because,
well, you know, they miss less than we do. ;D

I saw somewhere, V was projected a 11 seed before that
       conference lost..

I used to be a Sturdy fan but the last two seasons I noticed he
stops trying hard mid way through the season. AS if he gives up.
I dont like seeing that in a player.

       Which is wholly irrelevant. Whether you're an 11 or a 14, you're
going to be getting a solid opponent round one. Upsets have
happened and will happen regardless. We got the crappy end of
the stick by drawing Kentucky a couple years back, but really,
being a 12 opposed to a 13 isn't worth us not giving full
effort. I say we try to win this one, and win some games in the
tournament. This year has been abysmal, but it's not quite over
yet. Don't forget we kept up with some good teams earlier in the
       year.
If nothing else, I'd at least love to knock Albany out of the
tournament in the 4v5 game. That'd be a nice cap to the season

I don't know. If SBU doesn't get in I really don't care. In
fact, I'd probably prefer if Maine or Bing gets it, just for
laughs. Let them dogs have their day. I don't think it makes a
lick of difference for this conference. But that's just me, and
probably this all explains why nobody has offered me that AE
       Commish job.
