Yes. Even the Gold Coast Bank Three Point Shot is not falling
this year. It's like the flu, and nobody's been vaccinated.
I hope MacKenzie puts in some serious work on a shot this off
season. I like that he's been playing more, and while he makes
his mistakes I get a sense he could be some version of a more
settling floor general like Woodhouse was.

I agree that some people think coach Boals needs to start
thinking about next season. This season is lost despite what he
said yesterday after the game.. For starters. As much as i like
Sturdi as a person he never really progressed to be a better
player. make him a bench guy. I want to see more of Ochefu. He
showed a little bit more yesterday with his defense but his
offense needs more work. Playing time should help. Also, more
playing time for Garcia and Long.. Garcia is as raw as an egg on
ice. He needs to get the two year old bench cobwebs out of his
ears..Basically, SB should be playing more bench guys and less
seniors. Which will never happen.. And why isn't Boals playing
Almonancy?? Is he being punished?
My opinion so far of coach Boals is leaning towards him not
being a HC but more of a Assistant coach. I am starting to think
he doesnt have what it takes to be a HC yet, and why should $SB
wait until he becomes better, eventually!! Give coach B one more
season after this and if no improvement, time for the boot!!!

Not sure if it's Freshman nerves or not, but I find that he
often doesn't dribble with his head up, and has a propensity to
look at the ball at times while he's dribbling. This was very
evident when Maura picked his pocket last night.

Not sure why Almonacy has become the forgotten man. I think he
has better ball handling skills and has more potential for
scoring that McKenzie, but that's just my opinion. Although
Garcia has been out of the loop for 2 years, he hasn't shown me
anything thus far - he is largely out of control on shots, and
his hands (pass receiving) have been really poor to date.
Overall, Boals needs to do a better job. He can't shoot FT's
for the kids, but he can teach and emphasize more in practice.
His rotations and play calling is something that he can control,
and I give him a C to C- in that area of coaching this year.

. I think once he gets his confidence he will be a factor next
year. This team is really just 5 guys taking shots hoping for
the best . No leadership on the floor at all . Turnovers I
think we had 16 tonight and 56 % from the FT line killed any
hope of a win .

i hope so. and i hope that christie works out too, because we
otherwise will have the same problems next year.
unless we get a transfer.
i have to admit we are AWFULLY light on bigs, both on the roster
and coming in. i cannot figure out why. is this intentional?
are we having trouble landing bigs? keeping bigs? having our
bigs play as a big? should UML be beating us in the paint???

from the line.

way to play in this modern version of basketball.

sure, and Sekunda every couple of games or so, and then U.C.
every blue moon, but that's it, and that's just not enough. And
yet, we're so close, a couple of free throws away. Honestly.
>

threes. That's basic. You can't find a poor free throw shooter
who excels from deep. And we have a bunch of bad free throw
shooters on our roster right now. It takes a ton of work to
improve. That's what the offseason is for.
>
> And even though his roster right now doesn't fit what he wants
to do, I don't think he should adjust his style this season.
We're playing for next year anyway. Boals recruited Olanyi and
Cornish and McKenzie and Long, knowing the style he wants to
play. Let's hope they pick up their shooting in their debut
seasons, and that this is just an acclimation period (I think
Olanyi is gonna be a big player for us, btw, from deep or not).
You can throw Garcia in there too. He's shaking his rust off.
>
> Let's assume Latimer and Ceesay (and Moor) can shoot,
otherwise I don't know why he'd sign them. Let's see Chef play
more because he's gonna man the middle next year. And once
Yeboah learns how to play aggressively without fouling, he
becomes our constant.

i agree with a lot of this- but as i have mentioned before, in 9
conference games, which did we deserve to win? zero, i argue.
what do you like about taking nearly 30 threes a game and
missing about 75% of them? some of which are from our big.
with no inside presence to create a second chance or putback.
im actually going to assume that our incoming players cant
shoot. what evidence or reason leads us to believe otherwise???

For whatever it's worth, a few 3 pt team stat lines to date
(2017-18 season) to compare to SBU:
Oklahoma (with "the next Curry" Young cranking up a lot)
228-575 .397
Duke 186-481 .387
Gonzaga (the mid-major we all want to be) 216-588 .367
(pound it inside) U Albany 130-360 .361
SBU 192-562 .342

those teams rebound. those teams have their big (multiple) in
the paint, playing physical, and taking boards. those teams
win. we lost to UML. gimme some stats on where a three pointer
got us a win that propelled us into something other than the CBI
or AE tourney.

As far as 3 point plays I watched the Duke -Notre Dame the other
night . Yes both had there 3s but both teams shot in 70s from
the free throw line not 56 % . Big difference and neither team
had 16 turnovers another big difference . We can shoot threes
when everything else is going our way but for now drive into the
basket and try and score. Going to be interesting to see who
Boals offers the last scholarship to for next season . I hope
he is 6'8 or taller.

Just a heads up, Ty took five shots total, all from three. Zero
shots inside the arc. Ty's last-second chuck was the result of
there being no Plan B when Plan A – to get it to Yeboah on the
block – was denied. Just horrible.
And of Lyles' 21 shots, he was 9 for 15 from two, 1 for 6 from
three.
