so we lose by four at home. here's the questions im asking-
we shot 10/18 on the stripe (an improvement!), shall we work on
this?
we opened the game with 1 of 9 threes and kept shooting them,
finishing 7/26. anyone think with those 19 misses we couldve
taken a two and maybe hit it, maybe twice? combine that with 5
offensive rebounds and we simply do not have a chance to win.
with seconds left down 2, we got the ball to our big, standing
well behind the NBA arc for a hail mary. i guess there's no
real question here.
our starting big goes 1/5 from three. and 1/5 from two. no
fouls drawn, 4 TOs. do we even want an inside presence? lyles
pulls 9 boards? maura three???
outside presence- lyles is great, but 21 attempts plus 6 more
from three? the only had the ball for 20min!
another conference game that we deserved to lose, which is now
every conference game we've played in.

I hate to bash, but after the masterful job he did last year,
he’s taken a large step backwards this year. Dubious player
rotations, allowing his kids to take questionable shots, poor
offensive flow, horrible end-of-game play design, etc. Very
frustrating since IMO, we have more individual talent on this
team than we did last year. Yeah, we desperately miss
Woodhouse’s leadership, but this boulder is picking up steam
heading downhill, and appears to be out of control.
P.S. can we dedicate an entire practice to just FT shooting
please? I’ll even volunteer my time to teach technique.

Probably Bing has the cellar wrapped up, but a real battle
building among UML, SBU, and Maine for the privilege of playing
UVM in the first round of the AE playoffs.
All the same stuff that needs fixin' still needs fixin' for SBU.
As noted there is some serious discord right now in any waning
pressure situation. Timeout, no timeout...doesn't seem to make a
difference. It just looks like mass confusion and desperation
out there.

maine's down there too. and in the coming weeks, we have a
three game stretch against UML, bing, and maine. we probably
wont win them all but will have a chance to move out of the 8
seed.

I saw UC , Cornish, Mc Kenzie all checking the sidelines
tonight like whats next coach . Ochefu outscored Sturdi 3-4
. I think once he gets his confidence he will be a factor next
year. This team is really just 5 guys taking shots hoping for
the best . No leadership on the floor at all . Turnovers I
think we had 16 tonight and 56 % from the FT line killed any
hope of a win .

Full disclosure:
Among the long-time fans around me tonight our discussion was
primarily about next year: Who's coming back, what we might look
like, the possibilities.... The vibe was pretty clearcut--this
season feels over (even with all these games left).
It's been a long time since SBU wasn't seriously in contention
somewhere at or near the top of the AE mix. Frustrating as fans
as we probably like to think of this program as tailing right
behind UVM and UA with a goal of surpassing them both, but this
year feels like a big setback. Some combination of
coaching/personnel/execution is just off.

There was nothing I saw tonight that made me think Albany UMBC
has better players than SB. In fact if I was an Albany UMBC fan,
I'd probably think if SB ever got it's act together, they'd be
very difficult to beat in the AE tournament.

First off, if we were just terrible at the free line instead of
horrific, we'd have four more wins. We're so close. I feel like
we're outplaying teams, but just not capitalizing on that from
the line.
I think we're playing the style of ball (pace and space from
deep) that Coach Boals wants to play and is, honestly, the smart
way to play in this modern version of basketball.
The problem is that we just don't have shooters. Yeboah, for
sure, and Sekunda every couple of games or so, and then U.C.
every blue moon, but that's it, and that's just not enough. And
yet, we're so close, a couple of free throws away. Honestly.
A team that can't shoot free throws isn't going to make threes.
That's basic. You can't find a poor free throw shooter who
excels from deep. And we have a bunch of bad free throw shooters
on our roster right now. It takes a ton of work to improve.
That's what the offseason is for.
And even though his roster right now doesn't fit what he wants
to do, I don't think he should adjust his style this season.
We're playing for next year anyway. Boals recruited Olanyi and
Cornish and McKenzie and Long, knowing the style he wants to
play. Let's hope they pick up their shooting in their debut
seasons, and that this is just an acclimation period (I think
Olanyi is gonna be a big player for us, btw, from deep or not).
You can throw Garcia in there too. He's shaking his rust off.
Let's assume Latimer and Ceesay (and Moor) can shoot, otherwise
I don't know why he'd sign them. Let's see Chef play more
because he's gonna man the middle next year. And once Yeboah
learns how to play aggressively without fouling, he becomes our
constant.
I still believe in Boals.
