Seawolf, first off, I love talking hoops! Secondly, you surely
know more about last year's team than I do, but hear me out: I
think we all agree that Martin is the only significant missing
player (notwithstanding the 10 minutes/game Preboye played).
Even if he "rarely" passed the ball, his ability to create off
the dribble, just the threat of that ability, forced your
opponents to react to him. That alone helps to create
opportunities, whether it be via the kick-out pass, or via
offensive rebounds due to your opponent having to help, or via
increased free throw opportunities because Martin was fouled
while driving. Remember, you guys only had 5 FT's last game!
No one is attacking the basket (except Rapier), and you are
mostly shooting jump shots, which rarely leeds to free throws.
I'm not saying that Martin was an assist demon, but that type of
player usually helps in the areas I mentioned above. I believe
Coley and to some extent Jackson can do some of this, but the
question is if they can do that without turning the ball over.
Does this make any sense?

Quick, you make a lot of sense and I agree with most if not all
points. No question that when he returned from injury late in
the year he helped improve the offensive performance. He could
score, penetrate, and get to the line. The one thing he didn't
do was dish, and there were some other aspects of his game/style
that I wasn't enamored with. But all in all, he was a big
contributor during the stretch run. Just as important was the
emergence of Hayes, who is off to a bit of a slow start but I
fully believe will get to the level he was at late last year.

No doubt Seawolf, Hayes and his lack of production also has a
lot to do with it! He's under 30% from the field, and even less
(24% I think) from 3-point range. It's amazing how much better
a team looks when they are knocking down perimeter shots.
Brenton appears to be rounding back into game shape, but to me,
the guard play (scoring AND not turning the ball over) will tell
the story. You are probably getting more than you expected from
the frontcourt, and less than you expected from the backcourt.
Let's see how they play tomorrow....

Tomorrow night is a must win before we travel to play BC. Then
the 17th looms at the Garden on National TV. That has to be a
good game even if a close loss . We cant go into our funk that
day.

Again, "must win" is correct! FDU has a couple players to be
ready for in their big man (Goode) who's 6'9" and about 230 lbs,
and their 6'3" Jr. guard (Bolding), who's a transfer from the
A-10 (Duquesne). That being said, it should be a 10 point win
at home. BC Sunday can be a springboard if you take care of
business tonight. As I mentioned yesterday, getting some
consistent guard play is the key for you.....

It was a comforting enough win. Wasn't too happy with the first
half, but we really shut them down in the second half, I don't
think they got a field goal until like 7-8 minutes in.
Though I have to say, FDU played one of the sloppiest games I've
seen in a while. I counted at a dozen unforced turnovers and
blown dunks/layups. Hopefully, we can take this momentum to BC.
