Game 8: vs. St. Francis (Pa.) 12/2

On the road so I can’t type up anything, but wanted to open this
one up for discussion. A nice test. The Red Flash have played
well to this point. (edit: got the nickname wrong the first
time)

Yea, Checkmate. I'm a bit concerned about this one. These guys
score a lot of points, and their losses (which were hardly
blowouts) were against some fairly hefty competition (St.
Mary's, Louisville, etc.) We beat them last year, but this year
looks like it's going to be a lot tougher.

The Red Flash are 3-3 and seem pretty solid . Busy day for
Wolfie Sports between football and Hoops tonight .

From what I gather they are pretty strong in the guard
department in terms of scoring, so probably a test for our
younger backcourt.
Among the SBU games so far perhaps this is the most even match
on paper to date? Hoping for a good show from the home team.

Terrific comeback. I like what I see from Cornish and Olaniyi.
SB has four or five guys capable of putting up 15 every night.

Watched this one on ESPN3, and believe me when I say it, we
stole this one. St. Francis is a real good team, and may be the
team to beat in the NEC this year along with Monmouth, but they
shot unbelievably today from the field, and led the entire way.
A few bad decisions by them down the stretch, gave SBU the
chance to comeback. Yeboah was an offensive force down the
stretch under the basket and Cornish was amazing (clutch 3 to
tie at 83). Big win going into their road trip. Our big
problem still is hitting those darn free throws; need to work on
those in practice more.

Tale of two halves, and a nice show of determination from SBU to
hang in there, stick with the plan, and keep chipping away for a
chance at a good outcome. Boy, for St. F, to shoot 15/24 from 3,
score 83 pts, and still lose? Ouch!
Great game by all the players mentioned, and no doubt a real
confidence-boost game for SBU.
St. F gets to bounce back against Duke on Tuesday...
