I'm not surprised that the HS games had such good attendance. HS
football is a big deal depending on where you live/how good your
team is. You also definitely have that sense of community given
that either you went there, or your kids went there. That means
something. WE have great community support at SBU games, but
it'd be a big stretch to assume most of those people are alums,
or have children who are students, players, or alums.

I saw that when I was was walking into the basketball game
yeasterday, and when leaving and Oceanside was playing
lindenhurst ..I dont get it. Sooner or later I'll figure why
this is the case... WE have so many speculating to why there are
so few fans going to the game, but I am not hooked on any of
them...

More than 1/3 of the student body wouldn’t know a footballl even
if it hit them in the nose.

and that's part of the problem. no school spirit, no attempt to
contribute or do anything other than narcissistic social media.
and video games.
but the U is at fault as well.
i guess stated another way, most schools that have great
attendance do it at least partially with the student body. we
have the student body. we just dont get them out to games.
why?

Unfortunately Lax, that is the truth. I need to keep my mouth
shut on this subject before I insult somebody or some group of
people..

facilities . As far as the game goes I knew lehigh was in for an
uphill battle . Lehigh held its own in the first half , I knew
stony brooks depth would show up the longer the game went on .
The patriot league does not have the depth of the caa . Kids
can’t red shirt , can’t take transfers it effects the team you
put on the field . I’ll be rooting for stony brook classy fans
and a classy team !

I thought Priore pulled a very classy move when he had us take a
knee with 2:38 left (on Lehigh's 15 yard line) -- four
consecutive times. At that point Lehigh couldn't stop us and
there was no need to go up 66-29. This meant, of course, we
turned the ball over on downs and allowed Lehigh to run two
plays (short screen and knee) to end the game.
The gap between CAA and PL has not narrowed since athletic
scholarships came to the PL five years ago.
While non-medical redshirts and limited transfers (Fordham has
done well with transfers so that is not an actual rule) has a
big effect, the biggest is that 2 and 3 star recruits routinely
show up to play CAA (and Ivy) but only rarely to PL. Since CAA
has some excellent academic institutions and superior football
it is nearly impossible for PL to out-recruit CAA. (And that is
on top of the difficulty of out-recruiting the deep-pocketed and
resurgent Harvard, Yale, and Princeton)
It was nice to see Lehigh's strong fan contingent show up at the
stadium. I think it was the largest visiting crowd (minus
Albany) I've seen in quite some time. The QB and receiving corps
were as talented as advertised.

Not having players able to use financial aid as a resource to
fund their education hinders the patriot league .
Lehigh has not one transfer on their roster . The depth and the
60 scholarship number compared to the caa and 63 scholarships in
the caa creates much more depth and financial options .

Lehigh is a great program with a great history and fan support.
I actually think this game was great testament to how far Stony
Brook has come since joining the CAA. The CAA schedule is so
difficult it has kind of fooled us into thinking that our
program has been stuck in neutral when there has actually been a
lot of progress that hasn't shown up in the win loss column.
Back in our Big South days, a win over the Patriot League champs
would have been a very big deal. It's still a big deal, but our
CAA affiliation has kind of warped our perspective I think.

I thought I posted this yesterday, but I can't find it so I'm
posting it again
Regarding fan support, I think we just need to keep winning. I
couldn't have cared less about Stony Brook athletics until I saw
Stony Brook pop up on Lundardi's predicted bracket in February
of 2010. I went to a few games and was hooked. Stony Brook just
needs to keep winning.
I also want to shout out Adam Peck of Brookland. I really think
he's great for Stony Brook athletics. The voice of Brookland is
perfect and I really think its social media presence brings a
lot of intangible advantages to Stony Brook. I just put my money
where my mouth is and bought some of his tees. I encourage you
all to do the same.
