SBU certainly didn't embarrass themselves. I thought it would
be a 30-40 point game, and 22 was certainly respectable. MSU
was longer, more muscular, quicker, and more athletic than us,
and yet we played a great 1st half against them. They wore us
down in the 2nd half, and were really no match for them in the
2nd stanza.
To me, the greatest takeaway is Olaniyi. IMO, he's Roland Nyama
on steroids. The kid is active, athletic, and oh yeah, he can
shoot the ball a little bit. He definitely needs to see 25
minutes a night, IMO, moving forward.
Point guard seems like an issue to me. Don't see McKenzie or
Almonacy running the point with consistency. UC is certainly an
option, but I'm not totally comfortable with his dribbling
skills. I do love though when he drives to the hole. He is
extremely quick, and seems to finish well around the basket.
Don't know anything about Cornish - is he a 1 or a 2 guard?

McKenzie had one bucket this afternoon and didn’t even score
against Ball St. Plus, he has had problems on defense. Maybe,
the coach can bring him off the bench and be more of a shooting
guard? There is currently too much pressure on him in running
the show and defending a quicker player ever night.

Lax, that’s just crazy. McKenzie a shooting guard? What suggests
to you that he’s more suited for that role?
Best ballhandler and best passer on the team - by a lot. I’ll
give him a longer leash than four games.

true freshman. He just doesn’t have the penetration skills of
a Dougher, Tre, or a Woodhouse. We will see what happens, but
I’m a pretty good judge of talent. Hey, not every recruit going
to be a winner, but it’s extremrly early in his career.

The penetration skills of Dougher? I think McKenzie has gotten
into the lane more in four games than Dougher did in four years.
Dougher also never averaged more than 2.1 assists per game.
McKenzie is currently averaging 2.8. Also McKenzie is without a
doubt a better athlete than Woodhouse, and Boals went out of his
way to hide Woodhouse's inefficiencies on defense. Boals would
not have put Woodhouse on Persons in the Ball State game.
McKenzie definitely struggled with the assignment, but it's
telling that he put McKenzie on him in the first place.
I'm genuinely just shocked by your comments and am very sure
that your takes won't age well.

Nope, I stand by my evaluations, which are rarely if ever wrong.
By the way, McKenzie seemed to be mostly a target of DII
schools. Based on a little research, it looks as though
McKenzie is already 20 years old. I wish him well, but it looks
as though he doesn’t belong at this level.
I do love your passion about the team, but I’m not pumped by a
20 year old freshman, who has 13 fouls, 11 assists, 17 points,
1-11 from 3pt land, several turnovers, and embarrassed on the D
in 91 minutes. Hopefully, the point guards in the AEC are down
this year and the following 3 years.

I'm surprised that someone with your scouting prowess would
bring up stats after four games, particularly when the kid was
thrown to the wolves, facing the toughest four-game stretch this
program has ever seen. He has his flaws – all freshmen do – but
I believe by the end of the year you will be insisting that
someone hacked your account. 2017, not March.

The same could have been said about Lucas Woodhouse who signed
with a school transitioning from D2 to D1, Tommy Brenton who
also went to Hargrave as PG to get more recruiting visibility
and plenty of other great America East players.
I'm genuinely just surprised because I'm really excited about
McKenzie.

Love the athleticism that Olaniyi brings. Of all the newbies,
he gets me excited the most. Disappointed with the play of our
PG's to date, but you have to cut them both some slack given the
level of competition that they played against. Time will tell;
rest of OOC schedule will tell us a lot, and really looking
forward to Cornish entering into the fray. I also want to see
"The Chef" get some minutes. Really athletic body, but haven't
seen much of him at all yet.
