"Five years. $100 million." How much has been raised by SH's
athletics department?
Its time.
From Newsday. August 31, 2015.
From the moment he first set foot on Stony Brook's campus to
take over as athletic director in May 2014, Shawn Heilbron said
his vision was to build a football program powerful enough to
drive the fundraising necessary to put the New York state school
with the funny name on the major-college athletic map.
Exactly one year later, Heilbron unveiled his five-year program
titled "Together We Transform" to accomplish that goal. It came
with a variety of new initiatives intended to build a big-time
college football culture on Long Island that might begin to
generate the revenue necessary to turn the artist's renderings
of a double-decked stadium seating 25,000 and an indoor practice
facility into actual brick and mortar.
The price tag for everything in the five-year package? Take a
deep breath.
"The number we use internally is we need to raise $100 million,"
Heilbron told Newsday. "It's a lot of money. That can come from
the state, it can come from private donors, but that's the
reality.

Gonna cut SH some slack for this past year. Covid put a monkey
wrench in things for sure. But how much did he raise of the
projected $100MM in the 4 prior years? And of the 15 vacancies
mentioned, are these new openings that were frozen, or people
that left (and the job re-hire was subsequently frozen)? If the
latter, that's not a good tell.

SH and RE will use covid as an excuse. I would be surprised if
they raised 10-15 million. the turnover in his dept is a joke. A
revolving door. And the ones I knew left because of the crappy
atmosphere in the office and lack of experience managing the
dept. They were all nicer than SH and his sr staff. They at
least said hello, and most knew your name.

Wow! So I don't really know anyone in the current regime any
more, but from what I heard, the atmosphere was one of fear when
Fiore was at the helm. I heard that most in the dept were
relieved when he was canned, and that SH was supposed to be the
grand savior. Sounds to the contrary, based on your assessment.

Fiore was good for SB Athletics, not for SBU. He knew how to
raise money and how to hire. When SBU parted ways with Fiore
they wanted to get away from his type of personality and go with
someone who was more understanding of SB culture. Basically,
what I am trying to say is. Fiore was all business and he did
what he had to do to get things done. Like a Donald Trump.
Unfortunately, in today's new society we now live in. You cant
treat people that way anymore. SH is a cupcake and fits SBU's
new narrative perfectly. He might not be very good for SB
athletics, Just like Biden is not good for our economy, but you
get the big picture. It doesn't matter if SB wins or loses in
sports anymore. It is all about Cancel Culture today, and SBU
fits that bill perfectly..I hope I explained it perfectly to
you.

What is your point? I gave SH time to prove himself and to
advance SB athletic, and he hasn't. Do you never have a change
of heart or opinion? I still believe SH is a good AD, but it
takes a lot of kissing bottoms to get money out of Cuomo and
Albany. And I don't believe SH is that type, therefore, he is
not good for SBU... You are one special person for trying to
show me up, don't go there, dude.

You don't understand the point here. That's okay, carry on.
