As Old mentioned before, these guys are YOUNG. Five of their top
six scorers are freshmen, with Odiase being the only exception.
He's a handful on both ends, having earned conference Defensive
Player of the Year after finishing fourth in the country in
blocks at 2.9 per game, and that doesn't take into account the
shots he's changed. Needless to say, we haven't faced a rim
protector like this, and I love his energy based on what I've
seen on film. The help-side defense is such a weapon.

UIC did well to reach the Horizon semis but had to be
disappointed with their ousting at the hands of last-seeded
Milwaukee (which eventually fell to tourney bid Northern
Kentucky in the final). They might have competed for a
conference title had its star and reigning Freshman of the Year,
Dikembe (!) Dixson, not suffered a torn ACL in their win over
DePaul 10 games in. He averaged just under 20 a game last year,
and was up over that mark early on this year. UIC was 5-5 and
that point and hung around .500 more or less the rest of the
way. Freshmen have stepped up, particularly Matthews and
Ferguson, each of whom earned freshman all-conference honors.
So what went wrong this year? As is often the case with a young
team – turnovers. UIC averaged 16 turnovers a game this year,
which ranked 340th out of 347 Division I teams (and 337th in
turnover margin at -3.6). They had a few games with 20-plus, and
as many as 25 in a game this season. By contrast, we were NINTH
at just over 10 a game.

Because it's an embarrassment to the team. CBI is the least
recognized of all the post season tournaments..

OldSeawolf already explained how many teams are in CBI and CIT
tournaments..how CIT is only for mid-majors and CBI is open to
all.
But I was reading more about in on the internet regarding these
tournaments. NIT is a consolation prize for having a really good
season but not making to the NCAA tourney. On the other hand,
teams pay to join CBI or CIT for various reasons. One of the
main motivation is to give the players more experience,
especially if the team is composed of majority young players.
Which is why I think Stony Brook accepted the CBI invite.
Looking at the CBI braket
(

/>I think we can definitely reach the semifinal or final if we
play to win. But if Boals decide to use the UIC game as
experiment, then we will probably play just one game.

UIC is the youngest team in the nation, in terms of D1
experience. They are obviously hosting game to try and gain
exposure for their program. I would assume that they will not
stream from their end, to maximize gate sales.
Anyone see any chance of this game being online somewhere???

Streaming and gate sales :D : :D :D :D
So, that's a difference of 9 people?
It looks as though their attendance ranges from around 2,500 to
around 6,000. Internet viewership averages 12.4.

I read that the main impetus to host CBI and CIT games is to get
"post season" experience for some of the younger kids, and also
to generate revenue
on gate sales. For a game like this, it might be cheaper for
SBU to hit the road than it would to turn on the lights and pay
staff for a home game, for
an opponent like this. For a George Mason or Toledo, might then
make sense to host. Anyway, just a thought.

Looking at the bracket I could see SB making a run. I would like
to see Yeboah and Saintel get major minutes.

Yeah, that's the only reason we should accept something like
this. If our guys were older and didn't need the practice, I'd
probably say just decline the invite. Though if we can win the
whole thing that certainly wouldn't hurt. The NIT I can
understand why that's there, but the CIT and CBI are the
equivalent of the stupid bowls in FBS that don't matter.
