I saw the article on Puriefoy in today's Philly paper as well,
and I will be going to the all-star game on Sunday so I'll give
an update afterwards....I see him as your PG next year. Jackson
to me is more of a combo guard, but is not as quick or as good a
creator. Puriefoy can score as well, and with them both, I don't
see you having any issues at the PG spot.....I saw someone
mention that you only have 1 big man coming in this class, but
with King and Mayo (I know he is a Soph.), you really have 3. I
think the Burnett kid is the replacement for Brenton in two
       years.

Quick, I just rewatched Puriefoy's highlight film and I don't
understand why wasn't getting CAA or A10 looks. Is there
anything he needs to work on or is he smaller than his listed
6'? Puriefoy is a really exciting recruit imo because he might
be the first true point guard Pikiell's been able to bring into
       the program

I must admit I laugh reading the AE blog; it seems that you guys
are not very "liked" by the Vermont fans! Why is that? They
have the best historical program, yet they seem to have a
problem with Stony Brook for some reason. Since I'm new to all
       this, what am I missing?
To answer your question, from what I have been told, Puriefoy
received a lot of higher conference "interest", but the early
commit to SB was something they apparently were comfortable
with. I have seen him since he was a Frosh, and I can say
honestly that you do not have anyone like him in your program.
From what I have read on the AE blog, those guys will be
surprised, to say the least....I'm most interested in what you
guys do with your front-court, as to me, that is the question.
Who plays with Brenton? Mayo? McAlister? Bracey? King? I
like Coley, and Puriefoy will make him that much better.
Hayes/Jackson can knock down shots; you need to replace
       rebounding/toughness!

That board gets ridiculous at times. In my opinion, Stony Brook
is obviously an up and coming program and they're intimidated by
that. And Vermont fans are pleasant compared to Albany fans.
I'm expecting Brenton to move to the 4. and either Mayo or
Warney gets the start. I don't think anyone over on the AE blog
understands how talented this team will be next year with the
addition of the four freshman along with the 2 redshirts. This
is team is going to be very athletic, maybe the most athletic
team in the conference, and very long in the front court. If
they find the toughness and rebounding, we'll be in great shape.

Guys like me don't help over there. Some of the Vermont people
drive me nuts. Their recruits are better then anyone else's,
their coach is better then anyone else's. every player they have
deserves to be a first team all-star. There isn't one thing a
person can bring up that they won't post to top it. So I post
outlandish stuff to see how they will top it. The Albany guys
are worse - they are just biding their time until next season
rolls around. It's gonna be impossible to live with them.
I think our bigs next year will be ok. I just wish we had a
little more beef in the front court. Warney will be fine but
Mayo, McCallister and King all could use some bulking up. I do
think we have a chance to be super athletic. Maybe coach plays
a little more risk/reward defense and tries to get the fast
break going. By necessity this years fast break meant getting
the ball over half court before we had a 10 second violation.

I havent seen Warney but Mayo is pretty solid . King could use
some beefing up and MCcallister really needs some confidence.
There were times this year he looked great only to be followed
by hesitation . or miscues. The kid can leap and block shots
for sure, he is adequate from the free throw line and can shoot
outside just needs someone to get inside his head . I think
otherwise we will be ok all around.

Caught the South Jersey Carino game yesterday, but would've
preferred watching the UK/Baylor game. Extremely sloppy game,
with little or no defensive intensity (118-101 final score says
it all). Puriefoy had 14, which was 2nd highest on the losing
West squad, behind Curry (James Madison signee) who had
16....not a recruiting issue, but I saw someone mention that
they thought Brenton would play the 4 next year; I'm not a SB
expert like you guys, but from what I've seen, I don't
understand why you would do that. I like him playing 4 if/when
you decide to play "small", especially if it means playing
Bracey at the 3, but to me, rebounding/defense are really
important to your style of play, and Brenton at the 3 (with
combos of King/Warney/Mayo/McAlister) seems best to me. Just
       one man's opinion.

Despite being undersized, Brenton has the versatility to play
either the three or four so we have some room to play around
with our other 4 best players. I think the big question mark is
who fills in for Rapier's minutes.. The five will be solid
because Warney or Mayo could both be very good there and the
same goes for pg with Puriefoy and Jackson. The competition for
the last starting spot imo is between Hayes, King, McAllister,
and Bracey. All four of these guys have the tools to be very
good despite very little production from any them this past
season. If one or two play up to their potential, I think we're
a championship calibre team next year. I also think all four of
them are more natural at the three than the four so I'd expect
Brenton to go inside. But I feel silly with all this speculating
because at this time last year I would have told you Hayes would
be our leading scorer in 2011-2012 and never would guess that
Rapier and Coley would have the seasons they had.

Also I watched the St. Benedicts Roselle Catholic game and I
think Warney is going to be real special. The two guys on Warney
are both going to go high major and are listed at 6' 7 210 and
6" 8" 230 (Warney looked bigger than them). Neither of them
tried posting up on Warney the whole game. In general it looked
like St. Benedict's was avoiding Warney as much they could.
Warney finished the game 20 pts and 10 boards while getting
little help from teammates. I don't think anyone in the America
East with his size has that kind of athleticism. I still think
he needs to run the floor better, but he'll be in better shape
come November after a couple months in a college program so I
don't expect that to be an issue.
