Quick, have you seen or do you know anything about Reid? I like
him based on the limited info I've found.

Apparently he is a very athletic guard who is a scorer. He can
shoot it from beyond the arc, but also is very good in
transition, as he likes to attack the cup. He was at St.
Dominic's out on Long Island, and then headed out to Berkshire
Academy last year, reclassing into the 2012 class. He seems to
be what you need to finish this class, as you now have an
athletic guard, a wing, a big and a point guard. With the way
the conference is recruiting, in order to compete, you need to
increase your level of incoming players. Only time will tell
with this class, but on paper it seems to be as good as any in
the league (remember, King is also in this class as a redshirt
Frosh)....I saw that when he was at St. Dominic's he was very
highly thought of as a Soph, for what that's worth. I would
think that he would not be available in the Spring if you didn't
get him now, similar to your other recruits (especially Warney).

Any chance we can get a statesman article about Ahmad find out
what other schools he considered? I wouldn't be surprised if he
was receiving interest from some impressive schools.

Another article on Ahmad Reid.

I can't understand how he was so under recruited. He is athletic
enough to high jump 6' 6" (for perspective I think he would
finished third at the America East Track and FieldChampionships
last spring) and skilled enough to score 26 pts a game last
season. And I don't think the competition is as bad as
advertised - he had 30 pts in a win over a Hotchkis team that
was sending three players to high major schools.

"I also want to stick up for the Stony Brook coaching staff.
They seem to take a lot of heat and almost all of it seems
unfounded to me. First off, it's remarkable how much the staff
has gotten out of their players looking back at the last several
seasons and looking at where the players were coming into the
program. El Amin went from the third leading scoring on a
division 2 JUCO team to America East player of the year. Al
Rapier, despite some unwarranted message board hype, only
averaged 6 boards and 5 pts a game as a JUCO and now is one of
the most dynamic bigs in the America East. The leap in Coley's
game over the last year has been astronomical. I don't think any
team in the conference has done a better job developing talent
over the last four or five years. Secondly, I've never really
questioned Pikiell's in game coaching, and actually think he
seems to do very well with x's and o's coming out of time outs
and such."
I just copied and pasted this from the Bench Players thread
because it offers a good point about the 2012 recruiting class.
The Stony Brook coaching staff has, imo, worked very well
developing the players that have come into the program, so it'll
be interesting to see how this 2012 recruiting class, whom
Pikiell said were the staff's top targets at their positions and
is considered one of if not the best class in AE, develops.

Warney's high school team has now picked up their two big
transfers (a PG and a small forward, both being recruited at the
high D1 levels), so he should be able to play without so much of
the focus on him. I think he's still averaging about 17 points
and double figure rebounds/game. I will be seeing him play in
February in a showcase tournament. I will also be seeing
Puriefoy play tonight, as there is a huge game in South Jersey
tonight (#2 vs. #3).....

Puriefoy versus Curry tonight! Interesting to see how it goes.
Here's an article on Puriefoy's season so far.

Amazing high school game last night. Easily one of the most
exciting I have ever attended. Standing room only, dueling
student sections, hot gym, bitter rivals...Paul VI was up 10 at
the half, mostly due to turnovers/missed shots by Bishop Eustace
(Puriefoy had 8 points). Second half it looked like a rout, as
Paul VI went up 19 in the 3rd quarter. Bishop Eustace came
roaring back, led by Puriefoy, and actually took the lead.
Puriefoy scored 17 of his 25 in the second half comeback, but
only hit 1 of 2 FT's to tie the game with under a minute left at
60 all (he was 9-10 from the line). Curry (JMU signee) then hit
a tough pull up with 3 seconds left to win it for Paul VI,
62-60. I can't wait for the rematch, which I am definitely
going to see.....Stony Brook is getting a fantastic player; he
hit 3's, penetrated and both scored and dished, and took and
made big shots. Early in the game he had a few turnovers that
I'm sure he would like to have back, but was clearly the best
player on the court along with Curry, who although he only
scored 14, made the biggest shot of the game. Watching these
two D1 point guards go at it was a treat! Here is the story
from the local South Jersey paper:

Quick, was Puriefoy being guarded by Curry throughout the game?
I would love to hear that he put up 25 against a CAA commit.
