yes possibly no.
sometimes programs with the stature of tOSU like to have their
top asst go get some head experience elsewhere and come back.
why not test the waters elsewhere before doing the experiment in
your own building?

That's a surprise about Matta but Ohio was kind middle of the
pack for several years . A good team but not over whelming I
don't think it will impact us at all .

With Saul Phillips out at Ohio, maybe they try to woo a Bobcat
alum?

Wow, Boals is probably the most qualified of the 4 mentioned.
It'll probably come down to how he and his family feel about
returning back to OH (his roots), and how rooted his kids are
here on Long Island. If I were Heilbron, I'd be concerned, and
would start some back channel searching sooner rather than
later, so he's not caught with his shorts down. Also, if Boals
bolts, you would think that this would make up Akwasi's mind
definitively as well (although his mind may be made up already).
I hope Boals sticks around, but coaching changes happen and can
be very disruptive to a team. Bottom line, you always have to
look out for yourself first.

I know nothing about him or his situation, but the bottom line
is that this is a big step up in quality of conference, it’s a
return home and, most notably, the bump in pay would make it
almost impossible to turn down. Phillips got paid $572,000 each
of the last five years, or more than double what Boals gets
here. Even if they get him at a bargain price, it’s a win across
the board.
If we take the advice of some posters here, we’ll (lol) fire him
(lololol) and make the decision even easier for him!

I'm still stinging from the Bing loss, but I'm certainly not in
the "fire Boals" camp. I think he's done a real solid job, and
has gotten progressively better as a coach over his 3 years at
SBU. The last loss is an unfortunate stain on his resume.
For those who do want him fired, all I can say is be careful
what you wish for......

One story went so far as to say that Boals is "the obvious
choice."

Twitter going all out (OU fans) to campaign for Boals (search
"Jeff Boals").
Here's another link I found this morning that doesn't make it
sound like it's a done deal, for family reasons, and perhaps
Boals' relationship with the OU AD. Interesting comments here:

The MAC is a slightly better conference, but it's still a
relatively lateral move. More money at Ohio, but I think it's
easier to win the AE at Stony Brook than the MAC at Ohio. I
would hope Boals or any Stony Brook coach would stay put until
they get Power 5, A10 or AAC offers.
