Boals should be considered for the coach of the year award in
the AE. I dont think a mediocre coach could turn this team
around so quickly...

I don't suppose too many people, myself included, thought this
team would start 4-0. With a long way yet to go it nonetheless
puts SBU in a nice spot, and with some breathing room for a slip
or two, for a top 4 tournament spot.
Over these first 4 conference games what really impresses me
with this team are the good, smart decisions they are making.
Early on this year they didn't look this smart, but they do now.
I put this on Boals and the coaching staff, combined with an
experienced group of players who have bought in and are starting
to look very comfortable together. We can all see simple things
that add up over the course of a game. Today, for example while
with a modest lead, instead of rushing up the court after a
turnover, jacking up a 3, or forcing a drive into the lane you
see what appears to be an awareness of the entire team to take
it easy if a sure bucket is not there, shorten the game by 25-30
seconds, and get the good shot they know they can get at some
point. Smart stuff.
Frankly, SBU doesn't have the players and size and talent of
UVM, UA, maybe UNH and UMBC too. But they're getting it done
with an awareness of what they can do, bursts of energy, and
smart play.
Fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to the game on Thurs...

freddy nailed it...
first, im ecstatic over the AE performance. secondly- i'm left
wondering whether we've had an upgrade but its just too early to
tell. thirdly, i am also wondering if losing walker was a net
gain or loss, again impossible to tell.
lastly, this is likely obvious, but this team is less-superstar
heavy and very middle-heavy; we have depth, can run two full
units, and it shows. i like it, GO SB

Agreed...I think with Walker we would have been better in the
beginning of the season and maybe have one or two more wins
under our belts because of his playing experience.. ie: Rutgers,
Loyola, NJIT.. But Like you said, it is impossible to know that
for sure..
If only Petras was able to contribute more to this team with
rebounding and points, I think SB would have a strong shot at
making the NCAA at this point in time, from what we are seeing
as of late. Great turnaround story with coach Boals and his
coaches. Like i said. I know it's early, but Coach Boals should
be considered for the Coach of the year award..

I agree Hammer . If we continue to win and stay with Vermont
Boals should be considered for Coach of the Year . I never
expected us to be tied for 1st place this season.

Me neither. Not even close..I honestly gave this team 8 wins for
the year, rightfully so. Even the coaches poll had us pegged at
7th place..There's no one on this board or outside who could
honestly say Woodhouse and Sturdy was going to be this good. Or
even Yeboah..We haven't seen Yeboah play so who knew he was a
sharp 3 shooter. We knew what Petras, Mitchell, Nyama,Sekunda
was capable of doing, but to carry this team to 4-0 sor far in
the AE was totally unexpected. Even Mr. know it all, Laxnation
didn't think SB had it in them. lol.. Just joking Lax...
This site has SB at #4. much better than the AE rankings.

Except Vermont, no body knew how the Conference power structure
would look like. Even the preseason power ranking above had UMBC
at #9!
I thought our ceiling is #4 and never imagined we would start
the conference schedule flying out of the gate. Let's hope our
players stay focused and don't get complacent.
