Stipends for athletic students at SBU?

I started a small conversation over on the Basketball Forum
about this subject.. Someone on that board said SB is in the
process of offering student athletes "stipends" to help improve
recruiting. Does anyone have any information about this taking
place at SB or is in the works.

I have heard of colleges will start offering COA, which is
really a very small amount of money in the 1~2k range in
contrast to the millions of $$$ in college basketball landscape,
but don't know if it started yet. Isn't it still NCAA planning
stage or something?

It is legal per the NCAA now and we are offering it in Mens
basketball only. I believe its $1500 per player. We are the
only team as of now offering it in AE . I believe U Mass Lowell
will offer something next season in mens hoops. It has to help
in recruiting going forward which helps on the court . We have
to see how it plays out over time.
