Let's go and get this one, boys. Winnable game.
Hofstra's been riding its guards. Pemberton, Bernardi and Powers
are the top three scorers as you see and each averages more than
30 minutes a night. Gustys averages 28. Only Woodhouse is over
30 for us, and our starters are all 25 and under. These are
college kids so I don't worry too much about them having their
legs under them, but it just shows how much shorter their
rotation is than ours. Their modest depth took another hit when
Desure Buie tore his ACL in their win over Columbia.
Hofstra's going to live and die with the three like we do.
They're in the top 50 in the country in three-point makes, and
they hit 11 against us a year ago. Bernardi led the way among
returnees with 22, hitting four of six from deep.
Check out this: Hofstra ranks 330th out of 347 teams in
defending the three. We're 340th. Bombs away!
Hofstra's another team that gets to the line. 192 makes to the
opposition's 196 attempts. Send Gustys to the stripe. He's 8 for
42 on the season! 19 percent! Hack a Lithuanian!
I'd love to know what the local D-Is thought of Hunter Sabety a
few years ago. He averaged 22, 17 and 8 blocks as a senior at
Oceanside HS and started his collegiate career at Division III
Tufts. He had a couple good seasons for the Jumbos before
transferring to Hofstra. From the video I saw from his HS days,
he looks like a pretty good athlete too! He and Gustys go
       6-9/290 and 6-9/260 respectively #gulp
I envision we see plenty of Petras on Tuesday too. Gustys leads
the COUNTRY in rebounding at 13 per game – which is what he had
along with eight points in last year's game against us. He held
his own against Kentucky as well without a lot of help.
I think this is a game Nyama and Yeboah can really make some
hay. Their length could give their guards issues.
We should expect a relatively quiet atmosphere on the road.
Hofstra is averaging just 1,202 fans a game, and I'm assuming
that's accounting for those who have paid as opposed to who's
       shown up.

Thank you Checkmate for another good preview. Keep it up!
Should be a great game. After all, bragging rights to the best
team on Long Island at stake. I hope SBU fans swarm their arena.
I heard Hofstra giving out extra free tickets to the season
ticket holders to increase the attendance for the game. I still
feel bitter about them blocking us from joining CAA as full
member, which now seem like was a blessing in disguise. CAA
basketball has lost its shine and no different than AE now.

" I still feel bitter about them blocking us from joining CAA as
full member" Are they still blocked???? I thought all of that
hard feelings bologna stuff was over when Fiore got the boot and
we started playing Hofstra in all sports again!

I am not insider so don't know the whole story. May be they just
hated Fiore. And I know blocking happens a lot in college sports
landscape.. For example BC blocking Uconn. But at the time I
thought it was dirty of them. Oh well. The most important issue
was a good home for football and they couldn't block that. And
everything worked out for us. I don't think Stony Brook has any
plan to join CAA now so it doesn't matter if whether Hofstra
       still blocking us.

No insider knowledge of any discussions taking place (if there
are any). However, I'd love to see SBU as part of the A-10. The
conference is already 14 teams so I doubt they're looking to add
but I would basically want the same setup as URI and Richmond –
CAA for football, A-10 for everything else. Just dreaming over
       here.

The A-10 would be a good upgrade for us . Plenty of good
       basketball programs in that league.

I would love to see SB play BB in the A-10. We wont see that in
       our lifetime...

I would love to have been able to make tonight's game. However I
am currently off the grid with medical issues.
Should be a tough one. Each of the last two years have been
tight. Both teams are reloading but have some talent. Gustys is
a beast on the boards, Bernardi can hit from downtown and
Pemberton looks solid as a freshman. SBU needs to bring the same
energy as they did Saturday. I doubt they shoot as well so
compete on the boards and play some some solid "D".
We are nowhere near ready to compete in the A10 night in and
night out. I too would like to see it someday.

Getting blown out at the half by 20 points. No one can make a
basket tonight or defend very well .
