Kudos to Coach Pikiell and Rutgers for taking this game. The
crowds have been very, very ordinary at IFCU to this point (2295
last night? really?) but I'm hoping all hands are in fact on
deck on Saturday.
After a seven-win season a year ago, Rutgers is already 8-1
after absolutely mauling CCSU last night (Pikiell's 200th win).
That's been the theme of their season so far though – doormats
at home. Molloy, Drexel, Niagara, North Texas, Hartford, Morgan
State and CCSU, all at home. The D-I teams on that list are a
combined 17-32. Away from home, they've lost to Miami and
notched a solid road win at DePaul.
Pikiell's gotten a lift from a few incoming pieces. Freeman's
healthy after sitting most of last year with a knee injury,
Johnson transferred in from Kansas State and sat last year as
well, and Gettys graduated from UNCW and is finishing up his
career at Rutgers. The main holdover is Sanders, a Big 10
honorable mention nod who many thought would either transfer or
go pro. He put his name into the draft but eventually came back
for his sophomore season. He's been their floor general.
Rutgers has done it with rebounding and defense. Before last
night's game, they ranked fifth in the country in rebounding
margin at plus-13 per game, and were NUMBER ONE in offensive
boards, grabbing nearly 18 a night (kudos to us for cracking the
top 50). Rutgers is also limiting opponents to 36 percent
shooting, and 32 percent from three.
Achilles heel? The three. They shoot it at just a 28 percent
clip, which is worse than us (which is saying something).
I'm really counting on Woodhouse to get the ball to guys in
spots where they're comfortable. We've hung in there on the
glass despite playing a smaller lineup most of the time. I'm
hoping we can hold our own here.
If we win, it's a top three/five non-conference win for us in
our history, no? The Washington win stands out to me as number
one. You guys may know better though.

I am sure this is the 1 OOC game we have all been looking
towards. Not just because of the "name" opponent but mostly due
to Steve's return. I would think he and Jay Young will get a
great greeting and then it is time to get down to business. RU
has been strong on the boards. That has always been an emphasis
of his. We will need to hit some perimeter shots as I am not
sure we will get in the lane consistently. I am looking forward
to a great atmosphere and hopefully a strong performance from
the Wolves.

Does anyone have any insight into the seriousness of Nyama's
injury? Is he expected to be available for the Rutgers game?
He's been a key cog in the Seawolves wheel these days.

Good question. I saw him go down and needed help into the locker
room. I guess we'll find out on Saturday.

Was it from when he drove and came down hard late in the game?
Was he on the floor at the end? I can't remember.
Puriefoy tweeted that he'd be there Saturday. I hope they show
him on the big screen and he gets an ovation. We all talk about
Warney but he was good here for a long time. He's in a lot of
top fives all-time for us, including fourth in points (just
D-I).

Yes, that's when Roland went down. He hobble severely coming
off the court, and was immediately ushered behind the stands by
the staff. He subsequently returned to the bench, but sat for
the remainder of the game without getting up even for timeouts.
Re: Tre, it would be great to see him. But, after a really
solid start in his first to games in Latvia, he was injured and
has not played since. A real shame. I hope it's not a
long-term issue for him.

5 points lead... 15 minutes to go. Hope we don't buckle under
pressure. It's big game for both sides. Especially the coaches
;)

i dunno, we had a 7 point lead with like 8min left. then we
shot threes silly and missed all of them except woody hit one.
then RU took a lead, and we played catchup, yeboah hit one, and
we missed a few more.
you cant convince me that if we just went for 2 we wouldve won
this game.
nice to see pikiell back in town. GO SB

This lost was on Boals. He left Petras and the bench players in
the game to long in the second half. Especially leaving Petras
in. Petras is not a div1 player and Boals should know that by
now!!!!!!
