It's great to be back at home, with four games punctuated by
Rutgers' visit here. This next one seems like the easiest to
get, with the following three teams sitting at a combined 12-5
right now. Let's go and get it.
Loyola has one Division I win, albeit it's a drubbing of a
pretty good Fairfield team (it's their only loss). The key in
that one was that Loyola forced *20* Stag turnovers and buried
them in the second half, 42-25.
You'll notice that the top five guys in minutes for Loyola are
listed as guards. Jones is the class of the group, going for 24
and 10 in the win over Fairfield, and 21 and 11 in a close games
with Duquesne. Walker's coming off an all-league season after
leading Loyola in scoring last year. He's a Westbury kid who had
one of his best days against us last year, dropping 19, 6 and 5
(all team highs) on us.
They haven't shot the ball well, but they've also gone into a
couple places to this points, Notre Dame and Creighton in
particular. Walker shot nearly 39 percent from three a year ago,
and the kid Fives has had his moments too – he had 13 big points
against Fairfield.
It's a broken record but we have to shoot it better. I love the
energy and love that we've been in games thanks to our activity
on the glass. From what I've seen (Columbia, some of BC), they
haven't been bad shots either. Hope we can do better and treat
the home crowd to a win.

ive seen a bit of action so far this year. sturdy, as I
expected, stepped up. so did woody. he was so aggressive in
the MD game and really perfected his penetration.
iroegbu has great speed and so is promising. haven't seen much
from saintel yet.
I sound like a broken record every year but I will say it again.
STOP. SHOOTING. THREES.
we are awful at it. this aint the ACC (or even the NBA) where
we can hit 40-50% behind the arc. STOP IT. fast breaks go the
other way and they drain threes on us. momentum and 6 points
gone.

The one thing that I'm impressed with this season is the amount
of open shots we've been generating. Every shot under the
Pikiell era was contested - or so it seems. Ou offense never
appeared smooth or coordinated. (I love Pikiell, but it's the
truth). But Boals seems to have a system in place with more
cutting and screens that's getting shooters open on a consistent
basis.
Problem is that we might not have the horses this season to
actually put the ball in the hole.
But I'm optimistic.

Couldn't agree more.
Woodhouse got a lot of open looks because of the attention to
Warney and because he could step into shots with Puriefoy
handling the ball. I hope Sekunda rounds back into shape, and
Iroegbu was a decent perimeter shooter at the juco level. Right
now, 42 percent of our attempts are coming from three. That
might be a little high, but we also lack guys who can put the
ball on the floor and finish or create their own shot. I'm fine
with the open threes; we aren't just chucking them from back
there. This is where I think a number of our guys are most
comfortable too. I have faith that the shots will fall, maybe
more so this year because I don't see a slew of scoring threats
inside the paint/arc.

What's the deal with Campbel. I assumed he was redshirted last
season because he was still recovering from his knee surgery, (I
believe it was his knee), in his senior year. This year he is
keeping the bench warm once again and when Boals puts him in for
the last few seconds of a game, he fouls everything.. I was
really hopeful for him this season because of his size, 7' and
because coach P praised him and said he was going to be an
amazing player.. Not looking so much like thats the case in the
few times we've seen him on the floor.. For shame....

Guys who are 6' 10'' and over at our level are always are going
to be projects. My hope is that he keeps working and gets
better.

Tough loss. Last year SB would have won by 20. But that's

Tough one to swallow. As a way to get my kids to be more
attentive, I instituted a rule where we go get ice cream after
if they win. A soul-crushing defeat was not the start to this I
was hoping for. Totally backfired.
As well as we shot it from deep, as much as we scored and as
close as the game was, this game was discouraging for me.
Our interior defense was not where it needed to be. Far too many
gimmes and way too many them missed by us.
Mitchell had a tough day until the final few minutes. Those free
throws were enormous and I still like him on D late, even though
Walker beat him with the bounce.
Iroegbu finally gets some shots to drop and he's nowhere to be
found in the final 5-7 minutes?
Good to see Sekunda get into a bit of a rhythm.
Brutal night for Petras. So limited offensively and just not as
big a force on the glass as he should be at this level.
I was down on Saintel for most of the night, but his energy gave
us a few extra possessions late.
I really wish Almonacy would be more aggressive offensively. If
he's playing six minutes a half with the second unit of Sekunda,
Saintel, Mitchell and Petras, we need points out of him.
I feel like we can count on nightly contributions from
Woodhouse, Sturdy and Nyama, although I wish Sturdy finished
with authority around the rim more often.

agreed on this being a tough game, and also on Mitchell.
we shot 29% in that first half- that's overall, not just
outside.
sekunda is back which is good. again I think sturdy is very
improved.
