       Campi.
The calendar recruiting rules set-up by the NCAA don't allow
colleges in the month of August (for football) to have any
contact under the "yellow quiet period" and is very specific in
the language that college coaches (or their staffs) cannot visit
high schools. The entire month of August is in fact a quiet
period. I am sure SH and all the various coaches in each sport
have their recruiting calendars (I think by NCAA rules they have
to publish their dates) and stay on top of what they need to do.
As to the Asian population, whoever stated this is just goofy.
Heck he/she might want to check the roster since we have a few
"Asians" on the football team. I know this might be a shock but
there are several high profile "Asians" who have played in the
NFL. Just to name a few, Roman Gabriel, Hines Ward, Dat Nguyen,
Tedy Bruschi, Johnnie Morton, Eugene Chung, John Lee
Checking the website and our overall population of the roughly
25,700 students. undergraduate is about 17,026 which the largest
being "white"is at 5922; then Asian at 3980; nonresident aliens
2452; Latinos 2012; and "black" 1102. So if we really want to
piss off all the various communities, maybe we should have "free
chopstix night for the Asians, Taco and Burrito night for the
Latinos, to get our fan base up- and also maybe "redskin" night
for the 22 American Indians on campus, and reruns of Jake Lord
from Hawaii Five-0 for the 18 or so Hawaiian or Pacific
       Islanders.

I know all about the NCAA rules
Your missing the point guys around August 15 every year there is
a HS Coaches kick off meeting in both Nassau County and Suffolk
County there are NO PLAYERS at these meetings if one of the SBU
Coaches could show up they could talk directly to the HS Coaches
and what promotion nights they want to do to get their HS
players to from September through November and discuss anything
else on the HS Coaches and SBU Coaches minds.
I talked to a HS Coach on Sunday at SBU and he told me that one
of his players was asked to be a preferred walk on at SBU for
the4 2017 Class he told that player to not go because he doesn't
like how the past walk on players have been treated by the SBU
       Coaching Staff
Finally there is no reason why SBU Marketing Department can't
get students to go to the homes games they just have to be
       motivated

NCAA rules specifically state... no coaches can attend a HS
during the August timeline. Period! I stated nothing about high
school football players- an NO college coach can speak to the
high coaches or be at the high school during that period. Its a
simple as that. I don't know how I can make it any clearer.

Campi-... This is DIRECTLY from the NCAA website..
What is a quiet period? (which is the period you have written
       about with your August meetings).
During a quiet period, a college coach may only have
       face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or
their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch
student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the
college’s campus) or visit their high schools. [/b]Coaches may
write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their
       parents during this time.
I have been a college coach in the past, so compliance for all
the staff is a major part of a coaches meeting, and with all the
updates we are expected to ensure we comply. The Committee of
Infractions under the LSDBi citing on rules, are very clear.
You can even go to the LSDBi area and look at the infractions of
schools that have been in violation of this. So, if you're
telling me that SBU coaching staff is/or has been doing this-
then they need to stop- and regardless of the name or size of
the program, the NCAA takes this quite seriously.

I just spoke to Coach Hatch from SBU he's VP of Football
Operations the dead period is for the players not the coaches if
SBU wanted to go to a Nassau County HS meeting in August as long
as it has nothing to do with recruiting they can a attend and
talk about X's and O's or anything else.

Campi… I am growing tired of this thread (as are probably others
unless they are seeking an education). A "dead" period is a time
when coaches cannot have any contact other than phone contact
with players they are recruiting, and I never once in my thread
stated anything about the dead period- because that is not on
the calendar for the August time period you were asking about.
(geeeez). It was you and your initial post that stated.... "a
good time for the SBU recruiter to be there to lay out the SBU
goals before their upcoming season"... and that is a DIRECT
       violation, during the "quiet period".
A "quiet" period is a time when coaches simply cannot scout off
campus. Here is once again the EXACT quote from the NCAA- so I
will take them over our VP of Football Operations…
“The quiet period is a designated time in which schools may
contact recruits via phone or mail, or visit with them on the
institution's campus. However, in-person contact taking place
outside of the school's campus is prohibited.” fairly simple.
There is plenty of case history as to why the NCAA did this.
Because many college coaches showed up to meet HS coach Joe
Blow, and all of a sudden little Johnny football star was in the
high school coaches office or little Joey was the son of the HC
and just happened to be there eating his lunch. Feel free to go
and ask him that-because that is from the NCAA.
I don't know why you went and asked something that is NOT what
was stated in your original post since I was responding to only
the quiet period? I know what is right and the NCAA trumps any
VP of Football Operations whether it be Alabama or SBU.
