Besides another assistant coach, don't we need to fill the spot
vacated by VanDyke? He was a really good asset to the program
that Rutgers took away as well.

yes and keep in mind that the role is athletics-wide. not just
       bball.
fortunately for us, we have an NFL-style weightroom, great
facilities, and 20 varsity teams at the Division I level.
who wouldn't want a state pension and an office in the dubin
       center?

I was told by a stony brook state employer coaches are NOT Part
of the state pension system because they are hired as speciality
       position with no Union

i really like the transparency where heilbron writes publically
every thursday. here, i also like the honesty:
  HTML http://www.stonybrookathletics.com/genrel/061616aaa.html
he's forthcoming in that we likely cannot compete with, for
example, SEC schools that receive $30m a year from ESPN (mostly
football). but i was wondering what you all think about
       stipends:
       --- Quote ---
       > Even while I was at Oregon State, there were discussions about
the budget impact of providing a cost of attendance stipend to
all scholarship student-athletes. (As a side note, the financial
aid office of each school determines the dollar figure that
equates to cost of attendance at their respective institution.
At Stony Brook, the cost of attendance is around $1,900).
       --- End Quote ---
of course, i think intercollegiate athletics is an amateur
endeavor and should be kept that way. then again, is there
really a difference between a scholarship that covers
books/meals and a $1900 stipend? but what about when that
creeps up to $10,000? i guess what im saying is, regardless of
your take, its good that we are keeping up with the times, in
fact exceeding the others in the AE (who im guessing will at
       some point follow).

This shows again how smart Shawn is and the direction he see's
this program heading! UP! He has a realistic take on all the
changes in NCAA and how SBU needs to change to benefit. He is a
standup guy who see's the big picture! SBU is lucky to have him.

I have no problem with the stipends we knew it was coming
sooner or later. For now I hope it gives us a little edge in
recruiting within the AE . Other schools will follow I'm sure
at the mid major level. At the end of the day it is all about
money and how to spend it wisely .
