Game 26: SBU v. New Hampshire
   DIR By: Checkmate
       Date: February 11, 2016, 10:22 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Record: 15-9 (8-3 AE)
Last Game: W, 69-68 vs. Albany
Last 2 Years: This Year – SBU 80-50 there; Last Year – SBU 71-61
       here; UNH 63-48 there
       Notables:
       6-7 so F Tanner Leissner 15.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, .341 3-pt FG%
       6-4 jr G Jaleen Smith 12.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.2 spg, .362
       3 pt FG%, .873 FT%
(suspended) 6-7 jr F Jacoby Armstrong 12.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg
       6-3 sr G Ronnel Jordan 9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg
       6-9 so F Iba Camara 8.2 ppg, 8.8 rpg, .534 FG%
This seemed like it would be a good test for us on day one, and
then it didn't, and now it does again. When we walloped UNH up
at their place, they just looked like another up-and-coming team
that wasn't going to challenge us until our seniors were gone.
But they've won four in a row and seven of their last eight to
move a half-game behind Albany for the No. 2 spot in the AE.
That includes Thursday's 69-68 win over Albany at home in which
Tanner Leissner hit a short jumper in the lane, was fouled, and
nailed the free throw with 14 seconds left to win it. And geez,
if you consider UNH went into UA and lost by five earlier in the
year, that likely semifinal matchup should be a whopper,
although UNH had 10-plus threes in both matchups (it's not their
strength). I just don't know if those UA seniors will be willing
to hand the torch off just yet.
Could UNH actually take the second seed and host that semifinal
game? That would be something. Either way, in their recent
streak, four of the seven wins have come on the road. None has
been of the shocking variety, but that says a lot about a team
no matter what. Generally, it's tough to win away from home. UNH
       is taking major steps forward.
Jacoby Armstrong, an all-conference contender for sure, will
miss Sunday's game, the third of three games he was suspended
for violating team rules. It's a big loss as he had 14 points
and nine rebounds – both team highs – in our matchup in Durham.
Iba Camara filled the void with 12 points and 14 rebounds
against UA. He's capable of huge nights; see his 15 and 20 at
UConn, 14 and 18 against Holy Cross, and 16 and 18 against Maine
earlier. Interestingly enough, although he's second to Jameel in
rebounds in the AE, his minutes had been dwindling until his
eruption against UA. Ronnel Jordan complemented Leissner nicely
against Maine, their prior win, going for 25 and 11. So the
       troops are rallying here.
One difference between UNH and most of the rest of the league is
they can rebound. They're +5.6 on the year, ranking third
overall, third on the offensive glass and first on defense.
We'll need all hands on deck.
Ultimately, I think we prevail, but it should be a good fight in
front of the Valentine's Day crowd.

Gonna be a friggin' cold one outside. Hopefully the Seawolves
       can heat up the arena.
Despite UNH trending up and getting that nice win at UA, I can't
help but think SBU has them beat at every position. Not by a
lot, but by a little in every way across the board.
Guy who scares me on their team is Dion, if he gets the lefty
       stroke dropping from deep.
       Go get 'em SBU.

I think it will be close but we win by 10. Walker and Puriefoy
       will be the difference.

We are really going to miss Jameel Warney. Wow. UNH got the call
against Albany but didn't today. Not sure if it was the right
call or not based on what I saw on TV but pleased with the
       result.
Not a ton of highlights for us. I thought Jameel was fantastic
defensively throughout, and that he was more aggressive than
       usual going for the block.
The questions about how we handle ourselves in pressure
situations remain. Turnovers, missed free throws, etc. Can't
have them in crunch time. I don't get Coach putting the ball in
Ahmad's hands there late. Classic Ahmad before that was the
horrible turnover, get back on defense to block/change the
layup, get the defensive rebound. Geesh.
UNH is going to be really good the next couple years. Heck of a
job by Leissner bouncing back from his horrid performance in
Durham. Also, this game was without Armstrong, who's an all
       conference type player. Gulp.
Albany back in the two spot so they would host the semifinal
against UNH. We can tie those two up if we can pull it out this
week and clinch the top seed in the process.

Easily Woodhouse's worst game as a Seawolf. Did not hit a shot,
turned it over, and could not defend. He should not have been
in there the last 10 minutes. When we don't win the
championship this year it will be because the coaching staff
wants Walker to feel all good and cuddly about himself and will
not tell him what he can and cannot do. That spin move into the
lane to turn it over was a joke as is his jump shot. Games like
this are why Mitchell needs more playing time.

Wow, another terrible game by Walker against a good defensive
team. Walker is a turnover waiting to happen.
We are definitely going to miss Tre next season! He was the MVP
for the Seawolves and it wasn't even close. Tre is the only
player on team who gets a shot off from the outside or drive to
       the basket.
       In Tre we trust!
Even with Walker's terrible game, there is no way I want
Mitchell on the court until after the game is over!

UA hung 106 on Maine. we managed 59 today.
leissner is a real player, a big that can shoot. camara should
       have a big future.
a good spread of scoring today between carson, mcgrew, and
warney. we did everything we could to lose at the end of the
       4th. GO SB!!!

Our seniors won this game today. Walker and Woodhouse didn't
show up .We were very lucky but we got the call and the W. Now
       onto Albany .
