       Game 25: SBU at UMBC

It's a busy stretch – three games in six days, and four in nine.
The way we're going, it feels like UMBC will be another victim,
but they played us tougher than any conference opponent aside
from Albany. Lyles is the reigning AE Player of the Week and
leads the conference in scoring at more than 25 a game. He'd be
ranked in the top five nationwide if he'd played enough games –
only 14 this year due to transfer rules (he started at VCU).
In our first meeting, we jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead
but had that lead cut to five before pulling away. Lyles had 17
of his game-high 24 in the second half to keep it close. If you
recall, our leading scorer in that game was a guy who's been
very quiet lately – Sekunda, who had 21 to go with 20 apiece
from Warney and McGrew. Since then, Sekunda's minutes have been
down, with that trend continuing Monday with his 11-minute,
zero-point night – his second straight game where he was held
scoreless. I liked seeing him put the ball on the floor and
       distributing tonight though.
We have handled the glass pretty well in conference this season,
but UMBC actually held its own here, trailing in that column
       only 36-34.

Coach P really got on the team for its lack of defense the last
times these teams played. I would expect a good defensive
effort here. This game and the Maine game are a bit worrisome.
Kind of scary playing those really up tempo teams on their
floors. No let downs here though as the team gets to 17
       straight.

12min in. ugly start to the game. both sides. SB then opened
       it up.
its like BC doesnt even want to challenge warney's short hooks.
early foul trouble for the retrievers. actually SB too. theyve
tried three bigs against warney and nothings working. shots
arent going down for BC. they might not clear 40 at this pace.

halftime and huge lead. how these guys gave wake a run i dont
know. their shot selection is awful.
meanwhile UA has its hands full with new hamp. walker's 1v1
defense is really really good. coach going to the well early,
getting sturdy, thrower, sekunda, petrus, and mitchell on.
walker seems to get every other rebound in this game. puriefoy
       notably absent.

Ugly game but a W for us. We cant continue to play with
numerous turnovers and cheap fouls . Albany will kill us on the
       free throw line.

blowout. though, BC played much better in the 2nd half.
NH blew a big lead, UA caught up at the very end, and then the
cats eeked it out just at the very last moment.
that puts SB at 12-0, with UA at 9-3 and NH at 8-3. we'd really
have to screw up to lose the first seed.

Rolling along with four more games in the regular season. Last
four against roughly the top half of AE. For the AE that's about
as tough a finish as you can get, but if you're supposed to be
the best it should be no problem. Good luck SBU!

I love how this team has taken care of business against lesser
teams on the road. It doesn't always happen that way. Good job
by SBU staying on the throttle with Carson out with two fouls in
the first half. I hope Sekunda finds his range here soon. We'll
       need him.
51-9 in conference during the Jameel Warney era. 47-6 overall at
       home.
Big one Sunday. UNH may be riding high after its win, so
hopefully we catch them on the way down. Ten threes helped
tonight, plus Hooley reverted to his first-half form. I would
love it if UNH somehow took second and forced UA to go on the
       road in the semis.
My main concern if we run into UA in the tournament finals is a
carbon copy of the first game – Warney exits early due to fouls
and we have to find a way to weather the storm.

Where was our defense in the second half? We were almost
       outscored...
