We have a huge potential for ice hockey. There are a lot of pro
ice hockey fans in Long Island and a fertile recruiting area but
no Div 1 college hockey. We can start one and play in the new
Nassau coliseum. I bet we would more hockey fans than football
fans.

My thoughts exactly iBOsbu.. Last year i actually brought this
topic up to SH about building a indoor rink for ice hockey. He
had zero interest in it and told me if i donated 60 million
dollars to the university, he'd consider it.

Div 1 hockey requires at least a 4000 seat on campus arena per
NCAA requirements almost always. . It would sell more than
football and may be a good alternative to football . Our club
team plays before sold out fans almost always.

Didn't know about the on campus arena requirement. No wonder
director told Hammer to donate $60m lol

The sold out crowd at the Rinx consists of about a couple
hundred people, lol..I usually go to a few games each year, It
really is fun to watch and these kids are good.. But i agree
with you about bringing in a lot of fans.
I think SB should have at least planned for the future with the
BB arena and install the plumbing under the concrete for a
future ice arena. I was told that is one of the most expensive
thing to do later... At least it sets the foundation for a
future rink. I also think if SB builds a rink they could make a
fortune with renting it out to hockey clubs. the revenue alone
from that would offset all the expenses associated with funding
and building the arena.. It could and would be a win/win for the
university. Just imagine. SB seawolves, div1 ice hockey playing
Providence, BU, ND. etc....

That's the big down side the on campus arena and seating
capacity . Hockey may stay club level for a very long time.

Yes. A school must have a arena on campus to be eligible for
Div1 in hockey..

I doubt SB will ever have a rink on campus. Unless some really
rich donor comes up with some serious $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hammer I asked the question about adding Field Hockey and
Wrestling a bunch of time and was told that the only way they
will add any teams is at the Club Level but not as a Varsity
Sport.
I also asked about getting other Academic Programs that are more
attracted to Athletes and that won't happen unless a wealthy
individual wants to come in and pay to fund such a program such
as; Education, Business School (better than what they offer now)

That's a shame. I understand it is expensive to run a sports
program due to the cost associated with scholarships, equipment,
coaches salaries, travel etc... But women's field hockey is
popular on long island and fans would show up to watch. UA has
field hockey and they are quite competitive, too.....
