I saw a lot of College Coaches this weekend and I picked up some
SBU rumors
Even though they are not counting on Ben Holmes because of the
Academic issues he has been going to College and taking the 2
classes he needs to pass so he can get into SBU for the Fall
semester and according to his JC Coach he has been working very
hard to make that happen
SBU has sent their DC to visit a very good player who might
transfer in within the next week or so
They have concerns on their Punter and just might take a hard
look at the left Footer Punter that is coming in from Chaminade

Who is "they" have concerns on the Punter? Did not hear much
about this from the Spring game nor did I see problems at the
Spring game. As to Holmes, I am not one who is wanting to "say
prayers" that Joe C does not become the starter and Holmes does,
and our season rests alone Holmes being "anointed" as the QB
savior.

I have mixed feelings about Holmes now. On the one hand, I'd
love to see him make it, because I truly believe he could be the
missing piece of the puzzle to finally make the offense tick.
He certainly does seem to have the tools.
On the other hand, would Coach simply be buying in to a bigger
problem? If Holmes is struggling to make it through NCCC, what
are his chances of his making it academically at a much more
challenging curriculum at SBU? It wouldn't be so great if he
were chosen as the offensive leader, and then became
academically ineligible shortly thereafter.

My sentiments exactly . If he cant make it at a junior college
how is he going to make it at SBU. Hence we have no QB to
speak of right now going into the middle of May.

I imagine Stony Brook has more academic support (tutors and
advising) in place to help athletes succeed academically so I'm
not too concerned about whether he'll be able to make grades at
Stony Brook. I agree that I'm not sold on him being our answer
at QB. I also think we might be too critical of Carbone. It'll
be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Great point Gold. What a disaster that would be if coach P made
him the starter and in the middle of the season he would have to
sit out and Carbone comes back in as a starter. It would be Deja
Vu all over again!!!!

I feel if Carbone is our starter for this season it will only be
a continuation of last year disaster. We need to bring in a
competitive quarterback, either a Freshman or Juco transfer, I
dont care. A quarterback with big time experience, like Vad Lee
was for JMU, before he got hurt. Let's stop playing games and
get serious about throwing scholarships at better players. JMU,
Villanova, W&M, UNH all do it, why cant Stony Brook do it??? If
coach P doesn't shine this year then he is completely out of
excuses and his contract should be bought out and he needs to
go. Go coach for some div2 or div3 upstate somewhere!!

I am sorry to hear that the kid from NCC is having a hard time
getting the grades in the courses he needs in order to transfer
to SBU. I wish him well.
I am going into the 2016 with an open mind about #10. He is
athletic. He is a competitor. He is tough. And, he is only a
sophomore. Hopefully he learned a lot last season. The receivers
are capable of making him look good, as is the running game with
the people we have in the backfield this year. But all of this
depends on a quality offensive line. We still lack depth and
experience other than at LT and LG. Who knows what the transfer
from WVU will add, if anything. But if we don't have an answer
at RG & RT it will be a difficult season regardless of who is in
the backfield either at QB or RB. And if we get one or two
injuries along the OL, it will be devastating.
