What about the freshman coming in from Westchester (Tyquell
Fields)? Wasn't he supposed to be excellent? Maybe they can
bring along quickly. Other teams seem to find a way to groom
freshman for starting roles, why can't SBU?

we could have been a 7-3 team last year, despite all the RB
injuries. just too many issues with play calling and
questionable use of the QB position last year hurt us big time.
if we would have beaten Elon, which we should have, despite a 4
interception first half from Carbone, we would have been 6-4,
but we ended up 5-5. we flat out blew the Towson game also.

It's very hard to throw a freshman QB as a leader going into the
season; he played the same style of offence as Carbone who
loves to run with the ball.
This is why they are using the spread more in the future at SBU.
Number 1# priority; QB & OL....we need players; we have enough
talent in the offence to do some damage TE & WR.
We have the following already...
2 Good TE with good hand & speed & size; another TE with good
blocking skills. We have additional 4 other TE if we need them.
3 good wide recieivers; 2 were transfers.
3 good running back & 1 of them is a good slot back with good
hands n quick as hell.
We only have 4 returning OL who have game time experience; Davis
who is a true TE/DE who went back to TE & will help alot in the
blocking and passing game. There is currently only 4 additional
OL players on this team who have very little game experience & 1
is coming back from shoulder surgery & he was a TE last season
(Jackson) but did not play at TE.
I love these statements like campi who thinks the fans are out
of touch with the game; please spare me the quotes. SBU needs
to address the teams weaknesses; it's verry simple. You cannot
throw players into a positions that the have not played & give
them 2 months to be able to adjust; it isually doesnt work out
very well.
It was verry clear last season we have issue; the DB & CB look
much bigger & stronger....very positive.
The DL is still working out kinks from players we lost.
The OL & QB is a huge issue n you cannot ignore it...we have a
transfer from WVA coming in this summer; he has had limited reps
at OL but has very good size.
I cheer for SBU every game & i travel thousands miles to every
game; but i am a realist & you cannot ignore these concearns
going into 2016. When a team has not improved or resolved
issue from last seasons fans will target coaching; SBU had a lot
of injuries last season on this team & it did effect the outcome
of the games we played.
This season they had to improve issue at key positions or this
team was going to have averagge year at best.
We have 3 months; I hope a QB is on there shopping list this
summer & maybe another OL.
I have also read where Washington 1st desire is to play at
Rutgers & he reached out to them. Rutgers is going to offer him
this year from what been told......& he okay with sitting out
this season at Rutgers; he will have 2 years eligibility
remaining.
He wasnt born on the island; he went to school for a short time
on the island & his family is from New Jersey.
This Monday morning QB is out...

I'm closer to the program than you are and quite frankly you
give it a break you don't know as much as you think and I
believe that I'm not ready to throw this season out just yet
let's see what happens when the games begin and I will be the
first one to admit that we're on the wrong path if we have
another losing season but are you going to stand up when we have
a good season and praise the Coaching Staff

First off, coach went out and got 2 highly rated qbs for this
yr. Its unfortunate that Holmes can't make his grades, then
again if he had good grades to begin with he wouldn't have been
at Nassau CC. To say that a freshman can't come in and start
would be wrong, it happens all the time. Not coaches fault that
kid couldnt make grades. They have Catapano coming in and is
projected to start at center. They went out and added a lineman
from WV. Also went out and got two BC transfers at RB and WR.
You can't say that they have not addressed holes. There are only
so many scholarships to go around. There are walk ons coming
also. And yes when u lose an NFL caliber DE you are going to
take a step back at that position. But there track record at
devolping defensive talent has been good. I do not know any
coaches personally so it really doesn't matter to me who the
coach is. Having played there myself I do support the staff,
cause things are a lot better than they used to be. Everyone is
entitled to their opinion, but when its the same old bashing the
staff and program, it gets old quickly. Some of you think Piekel
underachieved. That's just nonsense. I root for the school cause
I went there. I let the AD make the decisions. Div 1 coaching is
not easy.

I agree with Chrissy, a frosh QB could come in and start. look
at Jared Goff, started his freshman year at Cal, and is now the
No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. May we be so fortunate with our
incoming frosh QB. fingers crossed.

I also love this program because I have now scouted HS talent
around the Country for 3 coaches since 1980 with Coach Kemp,
then Coach Kornhauser and then Coach P and believe me when I say
how hard they worked to get the program to where it is now and
they bring in the best Athletes they can get their hands. I'm a
realist in that we don't have a hot bed for recruiting HS
Football Players on LI because when you look at the other CAA
Colleges a lot of them have a stronger area to recruit from then
we do. I don't want to make excuses because the Coaches won't
make excuses but until we get more players like Will Tye and
Victor Ochi to make the NFL Jump we are not going to attract the
great players right now we are taking who we can convince to
come here and hope they develop into stars.
If I have upset anyone with my comments I apologize however we
have to remember this is SBU not the SEC or one of the other
power conferences also they are talking to 2 Linemen who are
transferring from DI programs right now so hopefully that will
workout

Don't take it to heart Campi. Having conversations like this is
actually a good way for others to be informed and educated on
whats going on with SB Football. You give great information to
this forum and sounds like you work very hard to help our
coaches find quality, local talent and i applaud you for that.
keep up the good work and keep us informed on local upcoming
talent.
My boy plays for Ward melville as a Sophmore and wold love
nothing more but to get a chance to play for SB one day.. I
would love that too!!!
