Only 18 of our punts have ended inside the 20, so most of the
time we're just punting high and short, and sacrificing yardage
to prevent a return. If our net is in the bottom third of FCS,
and we aren't giving up any return yardage, then that is a
problem that needs to be addressed. If it's due to punter
injury, then we need to rest the kid. If it's due to "coaching
strategy", then that's a whole other problem.
I'm not saying the players aren't busting their asses. They are
definitely doing everything they can, and they have played
through a lot of turmoil. But if the players aren't put in
spots to succeed, then there is nothing more they can do.
Ignoring stats entirely, the last two seasons have basically
been:
2015: injuries, penalties, bad QB rotation, poor offense, no
explosive plays, limited kicking game, VERY GOOD defense, 4 or 5
wins
2014: injuries, penalties, bad QB rotation, poor offense, no
explosive plays, limited kicking game, VERY GOOD defense, 5 wins
Two full seasons of the exact same results and the same excuses
(looking back at these boards from this time last year, we had
the same conversation about the same problems last season).
If this is our new baseline (5 wins, rough-up URI and a few
non-conference guys, hope we steal a conference win or two every
year), then awesome, Priore's our guy. If we want more than
this, he either needs to fix those problems, or find a way to
get our defense into '84 Bears territory.

that's right and 18 of those punts have HELPED the D be "VERY
GOOD" (as you state in all CAPS). I did not notice you comment
on the safety that was due to that punt nor the blocked punt
because of the his other punt. Last year Luke had about 30
percent of his punts inside the 20 out of his 83, all one needs
to do is look at those stats. And last year, Luke was one of the
reasons the D was "VERY GOOD" because he had a bunch of high and
short punts.
So in those cases it is a strategy to keep the ball inside the
20 so that the opposing Offense's play calling inside the 10 is
a bit different than starting from the 20. And if you cannot
even acknowledge that- than that is a shame! So since you are
focused JUST on the D- here's a question:
Would you rather have a net of 38 (top 3 in the FCS) with NO to
little inside the 20's or a 33 with one third of the punts
inside the 15?
Maybe next season we'll do better in those "Had Interceptions"
stats where we might have won one or two MORE games so the D can
take full credit for the entire season.
It is in fact Coach P's strategy- did you not see the first game
when instead of going for the FG from 45 yard had us punt from
the 30 yard line?
From your review of the last two years all that is good belongs
on the D and all that is bad is the rest of the team.so as they
say we all have an opinion.
DDMD- The punts high on his angle are because they are Rugby
roll style punts and that is how an Aussie ball is struck from
what I have seen and from what I have heard P wants, but agree
they are short. Maybe with his lower back issues the Rugby does
not hurt him as much. I still think we should have James in
there to try him out, but that's just an opinion.
Finally, for me, I am done with this thread since it is clear
this discussion in doing no one any good (well- unless of course
your one of the "D" guys! On to BB!

That's great news. He has a nice resume. This is exactly what I
have been talking about for two years. Our line was completely
lost this year and last. Now on to the head coach!!!!

did we have a dedicated O line coach prior to this addition? I
thought that P was handling both the HC and O line coaching
himself. this will allow P to focus on HC duties and delegate
more work to staffers. a good move in my mind.
