I am also not always a stat guy; & yes the team would be much
better without the injuries. But the staff needs to make better
adjustments in game planning; teams come prepaired based on what
they see on film.
Your playing URI who has had 1 win this year in the CAA & you
cannont covert 8 3rd down plays in a row; there is a problem
that needs to be fixed.
I stated nothing about firing a coach; but they need to make
better adjusments to the game.
I do not blame the players; i beleive we do have players if used
in the right way can make this a competitive football team.
The issues are clear & they need to make changes to there game
planning. You cannot continue to run the same offence if it's
not working; we run 70% so when you shut down the run we lose
against good teams.
All i hear from the staff is this is what we do run; well as you
can see it hasn't been effective. We are now on our 3rd string
RB who has a heart of a tiger; but you cannot expect to put it
all on his back to win you games.
When you start having consecutive years with the same issue then
yes people will start looking at the leadership in the coaching
staff. It is very hard to keep good talented coaches in a D1 AA
division school; SBU has had coaches move on in the past 3 years
to better schools.
Good programs are able to make these adjusments; SBU needs to
find away to accomplish this goal.
I am hopeful you are right Crissy about the players; but i have
heard other vibes within the program & i am very concearned
going into next year......
It's a tough business coaching; but when ask alumni & businesse
to invest in this program they expect results.

I have no issue with honest critiques. I agree jag that change
might be in order. Dd I was not referring to your posts. Its the
unreasonable ones I have issue with. I donate to the school,
wins and loses don't change that.

Away from the Dominican... Very pleased they won. I was scare
they would lose to Rhody... Simply because no one loses to
Rhody.
Sad because I will be away and miss the Season finale against
our Rival Albany... But happy just to know they have an
opportunity to finish .500.
Time to beat the Danes!
Go SEAWOLVES!!!

Chrissy...
The program needs fans like you; it's hard to sustain a wining
progam everu year. But yes sometimes you need to maked hard
decsion that will correct issue on & off the fiel; i am hopeful
this occurs this off season.
The offence we ran beofre entering the CAA has not been
effective; they need to install new play action & read plays in
the coming year.
Being fans we are not always in tune on whats going on inside
the program; there has been many injuries on this team on both
sides of the ball. If we can stay healthy & if several of the
players return next yearr the offence could be fun to watch.
I think we need the following coming into the program next
year...
Recievers
Lineman on D & O
DB
QB
FB or Slot
We have plenty of the following;
RB
TE
I am looking forward to see these players end the year with a
win; it will help motivate them going into next year. It's been
mentioned that they have already added a OL coach to the team
for next year.
I am hopeful it's sunning & not to cold this Saturday.

injuries were an important reason this team cratered this
season. but things like the QB carousel, lack of coaching
sophistication, and inability to adapt our offense to the
changing player landscape doomed this team to where they
currently stand. I think Carbone regressed as the season
progressed. that poor showing against Elon did some damage to
his confidence. Its going to be a QB shootout next spring
between Carbone and this new kid from the JC.

I donate to the school too, but that still does not take away
the fact our Football team needs a total makeover. No, SB is no
Alabama but neither is JM, Richmond, UNH, Villanova etc.. Lets
get on par with these teams in the CAA and I think the
complaining will stop. But I don't think Coach P has what it
takes to be top CAA contender. The proof is in the recruiting!

While I still believe as a former player that a win is still a
win, and for any of you who have played at the highest level can
always look at "stats" when one has an "agenda". For instance
there are those of us who believe that the stats on the OL,
QB,RB kicking game are the ilks of all our woes, and appear to
be written with their own "defensive" posturing in mind. Some
will blame in on the coaching staff (as I have for a number of
years) and then of course some will just cherry pick what they
want without any REAL "looking up at the FCS stats and drilling
down into them.
For instance one "blogger" who is clearly a defensive minded
person points out the woes of the offense, the kicking game
(well only the FG's and NOT the KO's) and the punting average
but decides to only share what he/she wants. For instance as to
the punter, lets go a bit deeper into his "98 out of 123". That
is correct! Now what he/she did NOT want to point out was that
if he spent the time to just look at who is in first place and
the Net Punting its not hard to find out there is not a huge
difference- but why let that fact get in the way.
So, lets go the number #3 ranked Punter in the Country (a
senior) at North Dakota with 47 punts with 5 TB's and a NET
Punting average of 39.43 the #4 (senior) at North Dakota State
with 47 punts and 10 TBs with a 39.43- or lets go to the number
11 in the country at #60 punts with 99 yards returned with 1 TB
and a 38.62 or we can go to the #16 national leader at
Sacramento State with 60 punts in 10 games with 1 TB and a Net
of 38.62.
SBU punter with a bad back, and a FRESHMAN who also holds, has a
TOTAL of 16 yards returned and 0.3 yards in 10 games with 60
punts (I wonder if you checked that stat?) and I TB.
Maybe some of you should also look at the snaps on the game day
to see how they have been off, AND maybe just maybe you
defensive guys might want to actually give credit to the punters
who just like last year are told by Coach P to punt a ball 25,
and 30 yards or 31 yards to down it inside the 4 or 5 yard line
so you mighty defensive studs can hold the opposing team
(because as you know the Punter is on the defensive side of the
roster). I would argue that this past Saturdays game, he had
three punts inside the 20 and 2 of them DIRECTLY helped the
Defense out and as you know we blocked the first punt because of
his punt. But why give credit to that kid when its so much more
easier to just give a stat to some how "prove" a point that can
EASILY be checked.
Speaking of our Defense, they have been great all year, but like
our bloggers who want to blame the ilks and losses on the O,
here's some D facts for you in the rankings. We are 89 in Passes
intercepted out of 123- so I am guessing we should throw them
under the bus? Or maybe since our D are 63rd in "Had" passes
intercepted...hmm remember a few games back the Punter puts the
ball out at the 4 yard lines and our LB misses a sure pick six!
Darn, and then we had the other LB after yet another Punt who
dropped his sure interception after the other punt he put inside
the 10! Just think if we had just ONE of those returned for the
TD-we probably would have won the game!
Just think if 22 did not get burnt so much on the big plays
maybe and kept his head without a penalty we might be even to
get the opposing team to punt from there end once in awhile.
The success and woes of this team and EVERY team are shared by
kids just trying to do the best they can. Maybe as "fans" (or if
you actually played the game) know what its like to be a part of
something that each day try and get better.

The only thing i notice that this team is consistent in is
stopping the run & the special team has great coverage...
All other segments on the team need improvment next year; if you
don't think so then that's your opinion.
This is a young team at many position on the field; i hopeful
that a lot of these players can improve next year.
Some of us are taking this way to personnel on some of these
post.......
a lot of the SBU players take there mistake very personnel; your
never going to be perfect but it's something each player strive
for on the field. These players get along great & talking
with them i notice they are very disappointed in this season. I
feel for them; they give up so much of there personnel life to
be able to compete each week.......
Several of the players do 2 to 3 extra lifts aweek to be at
there best on the field; that outside the 2 lifts the team does
per week.
You take the good with the bad & you make your weaknesses your
strengths......
In closing SBU D scored 9 points out of 19 points to help us win
this game...play calling is still an issue but we won the game.

NY State of Mind: good research and I think you make some valid
points that enforce the idea that football is a complicate team
sport. As for our punter, if he is injured, should he be
playing? there were two punts in the RI game that sailed an
average of 20 yards, and he was punting from our own 5 or 10
yard line. its doubtful that Coach P told him to shank a punt
from that area on the field. Now in fairness to him, it looked
windy down on the field, and maybe it was really tough to get
off a good punt in that direction with the wind blowing.
I stand on my earlier comments this season that the major
problem for us is our lack of coaching, particularly on the O
side of the ball. I am sure that the O coaches think they are
doing a fine job, especially with the injuries we have
sustained, but I beg to differ. when the season "really
mattered", and we had a chance to beat Towson, Maine and Elon,
our O floundered, and I hang that on the coaching staff. they
bungled the season, with or without injuries. Look, all the CAA
teams have been hit with injuries, so don't use that as an
excuse for a crappy season. Both JMU and Nova lost their
starting QBs, both out for the season. UNH started the season
without their main QB. all three of these teams are doing OK
now. the list goes on and on. Maybe Richmond has escaped the
injury bug, they are doing really well.
Bottom line: the SB coaching has to get better, or they need to
change the coaching staff.

From what I saw on the stats from the SB/URI final stats, it
looks like there were high winds (and weather.com) had them at
30 MPH.
I then looked at our KO' guy who had his very first 65 yard KO
and then looked at URI's KO's and was definitely wind aided in
their favor and tough to kick against. Both the FG kickers
missed their respective "short FG's against the wind". As to the
punters URI guy had 7 total punts 24, 27,24, 29, 36, 67 (and
then the blocked punt) for an average of 32.5 (so if you take
out the 67 he would have been similar to ours and then ours had
the 10, 20, you wrote about as well as a 46, 42 and the three
inside the 20's for a total or 29.6.
I am guessing with the wind going against us, that is why Coach
P decided to run the ball more- or maybe just from the film on
URI and Litone, he just felt like he was in a groove. But you
and others are right, these issues from injuries, to making
adjustments are in fact a coaching issue.
