Nothing harsh about your comments except that one game does not
make a season. If that was the case. EVERYONE on the team would
need to be replaced WEEKLY!
I know each week the kids compete for the starting jobs- so if
the back=ups cannot beat a starter out, then what's that saying
about he backups? The only other punter James W seems to be a
pretty good punter when I see him in warm-ups- but again
warm-ups are just warm-ups. My point is the "no leg" comment is
NOT tied to a lack of lifting in the weight room.
So yes they should put James in this weekend or whomever can
help us out. The other two kickers are not even close to punt.
I just checked the CAA website and he has over 2/3 of his punts
as FC's and 1/3 inside the 20 on 51 punts in 8 games and with a
total of 16 yards total punting yards returned for 0.3 yards
which is the lowest in the CAA but also SB is ranked 10 in Net
yards per punt so that is not good. SBU has punted 51 times with
Elon at 65 with one more game in hand, and if you include the
average punts (almost 7 a game) we would be the second highest
in the league but we are tied for fourth. . The CAA stats for
where our offense is ranked (11th-with one less game in hand)
also means that as to your point about the level we are at- we
should not be too happy with those stats, which seems like each
week we don't improve upon unless we play a lower level team.
If I remember Luke Allen had a boatload of punts last year- so
this seems to be once again tied to the lack of offense/putting
points on the board and a lack of allowing our kicker to take
the FG instead of punting the ball from 30 yard line like we
have done more than one occasion. But before that we had the
transfer kicker/punter Nick who was very good.

If a punter or kicker is injured he should not be out there; he
needs to heal. The OL only had 1 player who had any starting
time last year & he has been playing w a bad shoulder all
season. SBU had one other player who had very little playing
time. OL was patch work & they threw kids in there who never
played like Connor D; he a TE & DE who has never played at the
OT position. The starting RB Badell makes his read & hits the
whole; the line was designed for that.
When Badell went down it left the back up RB; and he is having
a hard time doing that if you Look at the game against NH & you
will see what i mean.
Reach blocking only works when everyone makes there block; but
very few plays does the running back cut back against the grain.
I notice it a lot during game; the outside edge is open.
I would have the FB or OT cut back against the motion going
left and help w block edge on the right to seal the OLB or DB;
could be a big play. This was the 1st game they put the FB in
the back field #40; & it help with the inside run.
I also notice when the 2 TE set is in the QB has much more time
to thow the ball.....
SBU runs the ball 70% of the time; if youu can shut down the
running game you have a good chance of beating SBU.
It is to easy for teams to plan against SBU.
I think or D has played well but they make to many penalties at
key times on the field.
Stats don't lie; you can't put blame on the players if the
coaching staff doesn;t put them in the right position to win. I
think the play calling has been very bad the season & they do
not spread the ball out enough.
I did heat that SBU did hire a OL coach.

NY.....
you stated he lost a good friend of his in a car accident, and
has been punting all season with a bad L3 in his back.
I am very sorry to hear about his friend & that is a very
difficult thing to deal with while trying to deal with school &
football.
We lost my son brother a few years back & it was a difficult
time.
If the punter has an issue with his L3 they should allow him to
Rehab this & let it get better; i hope this is something that
can be resolved iin the off season. Having issue with your back
is the worst......
i wish these things were more explained about team inuries; i
though he had more distance at the begining of the year.
i also think switching the QB all the time my screws w timing
wof the play & line; they seem not to have any sync.

#71 and #55 started just about every game on the OL last year as
redshirt freshmen.

I was told that #71 started & that 55# was a back up.....

you are correct #71 & #55 were both starters last year; just got
done going checking out last years games. So 2 of the 5 lineman
were starters. That leave 3 position on the Ol that received
very limited play or none in 2014 for SBU & 1 player who never
played line & who is a true TE & DE.....
I am hopeful next year they are looking at brining in experience
OL w some of the freshman lineman.
You will not win without a strong OL & DL; you should be 3 deep
in each OL position due to injuries; but you half to have a
balance offence. You cannot blame the OL for al the issue on the
offence; a lot was bad play calling at time..... i thought.
They pratice so many plays; but use very few.....makes ya
scratch your head......everything i have seen so far is the
75/25 rule....run vs pass. A lot of teams stack the line on SBU
& you will not get much run offence when they do; you half to go
to the short passing game to get them LB & DB off the line.
And it was very clear that we didnt have a reciever that could
stretch the field deep...
When looking a the whole picture it put SBU at a huge
disadvantage in these games.
Well at least the weather looks good for Saturdays game & it's
the last road trip of the year.....7 just maybe these dogs will
learn new tricks to win a game.
This will be the last post of the year....i hope we end it on a
good run or pass....hint...hint....

Carbone was not ready for prime time. five interceptions in
five quarters does not signify a QB ready to start. agree that
with Bednarski in at QB, the O settled down and got down to
business. one encouraging thing: they did bring Carbone in
couple of times to basically run a Wild Cat offense for a play
or two. Now that is what P should have done all season long.
he screwed up the chemistry on this team by flip flopping the
QBs on a continuous basis.

I don't want to sound like I know a lot because I don't however
for the 2015 season SBU has started 16 players who never started
a College game until this season. There are a total of 68
freshmen, redshirt freshmen and sophomores on this roster and
many of them are preferred walk-ons not scholarship kids. SBU
was picked to finish 9th this year in the CAA and if we win are
last 2 games that's about we're will finish.
2016 we will bring in about 25 new recruits and the schedule
will be tougher however these players who were forced to play
this year will also be more seasoned. I don't se a new coaching
staff coming in but I can see changes to the current staff.

And why is this???Why can't this school attract really good
Football athletes. Why are we bringing in so many walk-ons.. We
had a nice roster when Hofstra closed their Football programs
and we got some their transfers, ie: Maysonet, ultimately
making the Playoffs... This program is getting a bad reputation
and kids don't want to take a chance to come here and play for a
losing team and coaching staff so we are relying on walk-ons to
play and win games in the tough CAA conference??? Pathetic!!!

excellent comments in the Newsday article on the SBU-Howard game
by a Seawolf fan
Charlie Accetta
Unfortunately for the seniors, this team is playing out the
string of their final college season. Some of them might be
back, having sustained season-ending injuries early enough to
retain another year of eligibility. Hard to say whether that’s a
good thing or not. I’ve taken turns killing the university
president, the AD and the coach. This week my beef is with the
local community.
These kids play sports at a national level while attending
classes and graduating at extremely high percentages relative to
other colleges. It’s a shame that when 250,000 people live
within a ten mile radius of the campus the stadium doesn’t reach
more than three-quarters of capacity for most home football
games. Seawolves football is a great value when you compare it
to sitting in a sports bar watching SEC teams on a television
and it’s an even greater experience. The team has had a rough go
of it since its promotion into the CAA, but the event management
surrounding the game is first class. The marching band has
evolved over the past five years into the region’s best. Some
Big Ten schools would be envious.
It’s a sad fact that most Suffolk County residents have never
visited the campus, have never seen a show at the Staller
Center, never been to a home basketball game (Columbia and
Princeton are coming this season, but no, you can’t be
bothered). Most people have been to the University hospital, but
they won’t dare cross over to the other side of Nicolls Road. I
suppose the campus can seem intimidating to someone who’s never
been here. It’s huge, but it isn’t as if you’ll get so lost you
won’t ever find your way out.
At this moment in time, the University … YOUR University … has
made a major commitment to elevate its athletic department
nationally in a way that doesn’t rely on tax dollars from
Albany, but that will only work if the most populous, most
obvious segment of the customer base takes the trouble to
support the effort. Where’s the community pride? Is the
anti-education sentiment becoming so ingrained in most of you
that you want to take it out on football? What ARE you people?
French?
