       SBU & Howard Game
By: ddmd Date: November 8, 2015, 9:50 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Good things i saw from the game;
Full Back was a big help in the game #40
I thought the Offence ran much better w Connor in the game
Things i think if we change could be effective; When the Ol
does a reach block left; have the LOT cut back right w the
running back. .....The OT then can cap the OL or ML & we should
pick of significant yardage.....The who D goes left except the S
       OLB.
Punter needs to start lifting no leg.....
Love the Blitz package in the game; we put alot of pressure on
the passing game. We need tp dp this more often; the D was
       flying......
When you get into a funk it can become cronic & some of the guys
mentioned this; i hop they are fired up to finish the season
       strong.
It's about pride of a player & i am hopeful the senior players
want to go down fighting & trying to play there best ball......
Maybe we can have live music after the Albany game to draw a
great crowd.........do not like seeing the stadium so empty....

Hats off to a few players especially Liotine who per Newsday
is a walk on no scholarship player. Just have to keep in mind
that Howard was not a power and not much worse of than us.

Howard loses games by an average of 50 points per game this
season and we could barely muster 14 points....That's hideous..
I felt like i was watching a JV game. Howard players are very
small and unskilled. .We could lose the next 2 games...Albany
beat Delaware and gave Richmond a run for their money. Rhode
Island almost beat UNH this year.
Our team is clearly thinking about Winter Recess, they are done
for the year. You could see it on the sideline.. It was nice to
finally see Josh Valentine on Defense in the 4th Q.He was being
double teamed and i think he is going to be a beast next year..

I hope these players keep fighting to the end & see what happens
to the team in coaching on the off season...some changes do need
to be happen. They get back there #1 WR & RB next year that
helps alot. This team will need talented big WR with good route
running skills & the OL should be better next year with several
       players coming back as starters.
Like to see Connor back at TE could be a huge match up issue w
the LB & Safety; i am not big on Carbone at this point he has
alot of issue to resolve in his passing game.
We will need another big stud at the DE position next year...

Ugly game. At the end of the first quarter, we were losing 3-0,
despite Howard having -11 yds of offense. That's something I
don't think i've ever seen before.
During an early punt return, we had only 9 guys on the field.
Somebody noticed, but they only ran ONE dude ran onto the field.
Stadium was definitely empty. We maybe had 25 students there.
I had the parents of the Howard freshman RB sitting behind me.
They expected a total blowout, at one point they asked the
people around them if this is how they play in the CAA (not as
jerks, it was a sincere question, they were honestly shocked it
       was close).
12 sacks, held the opponent to 109 yards, we had 212 yards
rushing, and yet still barely squeaked out a win.
This season is over. URI and Albany are going to be rough to
       watch.

When things are at there worst i try to find good; i am hopeful
that the players can look within themself & play for pride to
finish this year. I will be there through the end even though i
see many issue with the position these players were put in.
We had many injuries this year but you half to have depth within
the program & it was very clear we did not. You also need to
change your game plan based on the talent on the field & SB did
not do a very good job at that.
You cannot stick to a game that is not effective with the
players you have left on the field; Howard was a very bad team &
we still we could not throw the ball. If this program is going
to be effective you half to have a balance attack on offence or
good teams will key on the running game.
I have heard things that make me very unsure about next year; i
hope they get resolved. It was sad to see the parking lot so
empty this past weekend; there was so much promise in this years
       team.

The only good things I got out of watching the game were these.
It was a "w" I can only imagine what some of the bloggers here
would say if we lost to Howard and as others have stated was not
       too far off.
Liotine did a great job and hats off to him.
The OL is an experiment that thankfully (and shortly) will come
to an end very soon. Whether we change the OL or just bring back
a stacked backfield the OL is going to be an issue for us. Maybe
we can bring in a true OL line coach (or maybe they can use
DDMD's coaching expertise) I am sure he knows where to apply for
       the job!
As to the other bloggers I am sure everyone read where Coach P
said "Im just really happy for Stony Brook in general and for
the kids." This kind of tells me that using Stony Brook and not
"we" or "our program", so the good news is he has resigned that
something is coming to an end and I think even he will be happy
       to turn the page.
Its a shame that on third and fourth and one deep in the red
zone our OL cant get us one yard, and worse that P has no
confidence in the kicker (and this is at least the fourth time
we did not kick a FG within range) but again the good news is
there are only two games left.
I was really happy to see that our blitz "packages" worked great
against a really poor lower level team so next year when we play
another 1-7 team our D will do so well against a really under
qualified teams. Too bad they could not show up in the bigger
CAA games that we are in.
I am not sure about the one blogger who is writing about the
punter with no leg- but when we see them in game warm-ups he has
been hitting them across the track and consistently. One of the
parents just said they also heard he lost a good friend of his
in a car accident, and has been punting all season with a bad L3
in his back- so clearly the no leg" comment is just crazy if one
ever looks at warmups and sees what the teams are doing. And
yes, I watch the KO guy who still cant drive a ball into the end
zone (hmmm. I guess he might need to get in the weight room as
       well)
Lastly, as others have stated the good news is that BB is just
       around the corner!

The "punter has no leg" comment is probably because the punter
had 3 punts of under 30 yards yesterday, and a long of 35.
Howard wasn't able to return any of them, but that is more an
indictment of the punts than showing their effectiveness. Those
stats are just not good enough to cut it at this level.
Unfortunately, warmups don't count for anything. Kickers
operate under pressure. The mental component is MASSIVE. Doing
it in warmups means absolutely nothing.
I know i'm coming across harsh, but that is mainly because I'm
certain Nolan is injured and it seriously impacting his ability.
They should be shutting him down. We have 4 other
kickers/punters on the roster, lets give them some run, and let
the kid come back healthy next season (or possibly even in the
last game). The only thing he's learning right now is that he's
hurting the team. And that is definitely not fair to him.
