good news- I noticed recent grad Andrew Dorsey has been named
the Director of Lacrosse Operations. that is the first of the
kind for SB. no press release though:
2016 DI Top Units: Defense
10. Stony Brook
Defensive Midfield — Junior Jeff Reh is one of the best
shortstick d-middies in college lacrosse; he was first-team
All-America East and put up some gaudy numbers — 51 groundballs
and 18 caused turnovers. Senior Dylan Curry was a first-team
all-conference selection at LSM, but might play down low in
2016.
Close Defense — The Seawolves have an uncommon luxury in that
senior Lucas Rock garnered the majority of the attention and
awards as the top defenseman, but sophomore Ben Randall was
drawing the top assignment in most games last season.
Goal — Hayden Johnstone returns after starting last season and
stopping 40%, but UMass transfer Zach Oliveri was a three-year
starter and career 53% stopper in Amherst. That 13% uptick could
account for the difference between Stony Brook being a bottom 30
defense
last week SHU beat lafayette 12-8, the leopards were never
really in the game. they must take a lot of low % shots or they
just shot poorly against lafayette. they destroyed lafayette on
GBs though, also riding, caused turnovers, all of which are
expected for feb games and cold weather. the only stat that the
leopards controlled was faceoff draws, 15-9.
i dont know much about these guys but dodge and masi are good
players on offense. i think they have a lot of LI players
including former SB recruit mike calvagna.

faceoff break from lindsay to bitzer, bounce shot. 1-0 SB
rogers inside look to easty, high corner. 2-0 SB
bitzer behind, feeds far pipe to cutting easty, inside shot.
3-0 SB
SHU timeout. 1221 Q1
rees and anderson on pole. i think abdellatif too. and i see
chicquen, lloyd, daly. pugal too.
SB flag (curry slash), shot hit pipe. SHU EMO, SB kills flag
and clears.
SHU ball at x, feeds cutter near pipe, posch shoots inside. 3-1
SB.
SHU flag, slash. SB EMO, rogers up top, easty curls on top of
crease, feeds, turns, shoots low to low. 4-1 SB.
randall takeaway, GB, switches hands, pass upfield to reh, fast
break, GB, easty picks up and behind the back bouncer. 5-1 SB.
game got a bit sloppy on both sides (wet conditions). SB's
slide/recover looks in mid-season form. forced long possessions
with solid defense, even getting a shot clock violation. end of
Q1.

SB had 5 goals on 10 shots in the first stanza. one was a pipe.

right off the face, anderson GB, wheels it upfield to bitzer,
crossfield to open easty for an easy goal. sichenzia on the
field. 6-1 SB
corpo flagged for pushing. SHU EMO. two big saves from
olivieri. SB kills flag. clear to ellis, SHU flag for
offsides. and another for pushing. SB EMO, but scores right
after expiry. high to high outside shot hughes, from easty.
7-1 SB. roros is out there.
SHU flag on next faceoff, delay. SB EMO, easty on GLE feeds
cross cage to shultz, pops in a 3 yard bouncer. SHU slide just
a second late. 8-1 SB
SHU timeout. 846 Q2
SB timeout 813 Q2
sheets is out there at x. slow break, shultz from wing, feeds
reh cutting up top, long 12 yard bouncer, really stepped into
it. 9-1 SB
i think pugal now has a short stick, bailey too? outside shot
from the perimeter hits olivieri, trickles in. kramer to
garritano. 9-2 SB
SB timeout 313 Q2
randall has at least 4 takeaways in the first half. broken
play, sichenzia gets the GB, curls around X, feeds ellis open on
the far pipe in a 2 man game. 10-2 SB

beginning of 3Q.
corpo goes left, then spins right, drives the pipe, beats him
mean- protects the stick from the trail check, takes a proper
overhand high to low bouncer into the corner. 11-2 SB
off broken play, easty feeds bitzer on GLE, turns and shoots
lefty off hip far pipe. 12-2 SB
hart taking faceoffs. lucas rock BIG double to the blind side
and takeaway, clear. SHU fans upset with the calls and the
camera is picking up the profanities. SB flag on ellis,
pushing. SHU EMO, big save olivieri. botched clear but
sichenzia saves it. SHU failed clear, SB zips passes upfield
and easty is open on the crease, from shultz. i think that's a
socktrick for eastwood. 13-2 SB
big save olivieri, but rebound gets picked up on far crease, low
to high off hip shot. 13-3 SB
jeff reh playing set offense. beats his man, steps up top
center, fires a 12 yard bouncer. 14-3 SB

down and clears. SB flag on chicquen, slashing. SHU EMO,
excellent sliding and rotating, forces an outside shot, save
olivieri. failed clear, offsides SB, ball goes the other way on
a break and SHU scores. 14-4 SB
maciejewski in cage. roros back on. flag on rogers, push with
possession. SHU EMO, outside shot, save macie low. SB clear
and kills flag. all curry. end of Q3, 14-4 SB
