Top Picks: Greg Coholan, M, UVa; Brandon Mullins, D, Syracuse;
Challen Rogers, M, Stony Brook.
Well, the Cannons finally did it. They picked an undervalued
Canadian who slid down the draft like everyone that tried to
walk to Lax Con this weekend. Usually around let’s say…Round 2
they start taking players that are local and/or from New England
regardless of their stock. Just grab a guy and fill a need.
Someone has to do birthday parties, right?
more draft analysis:
Boston Cannons – Challen Rogers, Midfield, Stony Brook –
Stony Brook has been challenging Albany for the Amercia East
crown for a few years now. Much of that is due to Rogers in the
midfield.
New York Lizards – Brody Eastwood, Attack, Stony Brook – Coach
Spallina had to be thrilled having a shot at Eastwood. He’s a
fantastic player who Spallina has probably seen plenty of as the
Stony Brook women’s coach. This is a near impossible attack unit
to crack, but even if he is just a practice player, he will be a
great asset.
That's a joke that they were drafted so late. That league leaves
a lot to be desired. A bunch of ham and eggers got drafted
before them. It will be different in the indoor draft.

IL staff debates dark horses:
Dan Aburn (@DanAburn2423)
Stony Brook — Coming off a 13-5 record in 2015 and returning
eight starters, Stony Brook seems poised to have a big 2016.
Seniors Brody Eastwood (62G, 6A) and Challen Rogers (30, 23) are
as dangerous a duo as any in NCAA lacrosse, and a solid face-off
man in Jay Lindsay (55.6%) will be feeding them possessions.
They return their entire first midfield and have notable depth
and athleticism at defensive midfield. Defensively, they return
their top cover man in Ben Randall and UMass transfer Zach
Oliveri (53.2%) gives them a solid option at goalie. With Albany
losing much of their star power, the America East title could be
theirs to take. However, a poor strength-of-schedule (ranked No.
49) raises questions around an at-large bid to the NCAA
Tournament.

Team on top: Many experts like Albany to capture its
fourth straight America East regular-season and tournament
championships, but Stony Brook might stand in the way. The
Seawolves return eight starters from last season’s team that
went 5-1 in the conference. The offense will miss graduate Mike
Rooney (48 goals and 63 assists), but does welcome back five
starters including its entire midfield of seniors Challen Rogers
(30 G, 23 A) and Chris Hughes (17 G, 14 A) and junior Alex
Corpolongo (23 G, 6 A). Stony Brook last qualified for the NCAA
tournament in 2012.
Boston, Mass. - The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team has been

overall.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Albany received five first-place votes and 35 overall. Vermont

Fifth-year head coach Jim Nagle returns eight starters,
including preseason All-Americans in seniors Challen Rogers
(Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Brody Eastwood (Victoria,

Despite the graduation of Mike Rooney, Stony Brook returns eight
of its nine top point getters from a year ago. Eastwood
finished in a tie for second nationally with 62 goals and ranked
third with 3.44 goals per game. Rogers finished with 30 goals
and 23 assists, reaching 50 points for a second straight year.
Seniors Matt Schultz (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Chris Hughes
(Oceanside, N.Y.) and juniors Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) and
Ryan Bitzer (Riverhead, N.Y.) registered at least 20 points
apiece last year.
After making the move to the defensive midfield, Reh starred as
a short stick midfielder. He recorded 51 ground balls and 18
caused turnovers and added four goals and four assists to earn
first team all-conference honors.
Reh is joined on the defensive end by returning starters in
seniors Lucas Rock (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Dylan Curry (East
Meadow, N.Y.) and sophomore Ben Randall (Mason, Ohio).
Stony Brook's depth at goalie includes senior transfer Zach
Oliveri (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), junior Hayden Johnstone (Toronto,
Ontario) and sophomore Brandon Maciejewski (Penn Yan, N.Y.).
