Speaking of weather, its supposed rain that day.
They beat Assumption by 2 last thursday. It looks like we are
the toughest team they will play.

new depth chart dated today is out. a few minor revisions,
Kinder is still our No. 1 QB on the list, so I assume he will be
starting once again on Saturday.

I'd like some opinions on this from some of you ex-FB players
out there:
It looks to me like since SBU has the reputation of being a
strong running team (although they haven't show too much this
year yet), the opposing defenses are stacking the box and keying
on their single running back. Coker's runs last week (1.8
yds/carry) certainly bear that out. Why don't the Seawolves
ever use a 2-back set, with both Coker and Bidell in the
backfield so as not to allow that single target for the D?

I don't know if both in the backfield would make a difference.
Putting a Bedell and Coker in the backfield together means that
you only have 2 WR's and a TE. That's going to allow teams to
use only 3 DB's and add an extra LB to rush/contain. Plus,
Coker is a dive back without the speed to turn the corner. A
fullback would provide the same value, but could at least
lead-block.
That idea would be great if we had a legit deep threat. They
would have to keep a safety deep, corners would need to give a
cushion, etc. But we unfortunately don't have that. Without
that deep passing threat, DB's can cheat up or press, and you'll
see 11 dudes within 10 yards of the LOS. Thats a lot of slop to
run through.
(NOTE: This is from a ex-scouts perspective, not an ex-players.
I'm really interested to hear what the ex-players think)

We are really not a 2 back offense, we use to run with a FB/TE
but they were mainly used as cut off guys to slowdown the back
side DE so that the holes could open up on the front side for
the zone play. Coker is not a zone back, and just doesn't look
good in our offense, add to that horrific line play and we have
a disaster in the making. Our play selection is horrible. I
must say our defense looks really good, but offense usually
takes a little longer to come together. I think coach P will get
it together come conference play.
College football should allow a preseason/scrimmage game or 2.

According to Greg Logan of Newsday Coach is going to use a 2
QB system for the remainder of our non conference schedule.
Kinder in the first half and Bednarski in the 2nd. We wont see
a true starter until CAA play begins 9/27. One of them better
be able to throw because we are going to get jammed at the line
with 8 guys upfront on defense daring us to run. No doubt we
win Saturday night if that is any consolation against a D2
team.
