I'm encouraged. Bednarski looked good on that touchdown drive.
The offensive line is obviously a work in progress, but I think
the talent is there. The new guys just learn to know their
assignments. The defense has been great so far. At the moment
they are pretty frustrating to watch, but I think come
conference play this is going to be a good team.

- Coker is absolutely useless - no speed or quickness, but hey,
he can turn a 2 yard gain into a gain of 2 1/2 yards. I
wouldn't care if this kid played another down at Stony Brook. I
guess each player on the O-line at Iowa were All Big 10?
- Why is Tye, this lumbering "athlete" returning punts? WE
don't have one other person on the entire roster, who can return
punts?
- How wimpy were our WRs in the final minute - not one willing
to sacrifice their body to make a catch. I thought football
players were tough?
- These football players might not be tough, but the players and
coaches are definitely not too bright. Really, running into the
punter with less than a minute left and costing the team 40
yards in field possession and 10 seconds off the game clock.
Also, how about the coach not showing any urgency to speed up
the tempo with 5 minutes left and down by 9. The O was taking
too much time getting to the line of scrimmage. Didn't coach
realize early on that UCONN wasn't that good and he didn't have
to be so conservative in his game calling?
Still needs lots of improvement!

I'm back from the game. My thoughts...
Kinder is a one-read-and-go QB. If Coxson is covered, he looks
to run. And when he looks to run, he drops his eyes and doesn't
look downfield. A few times, Wagner was running wide open, but
Kinder never made it past the first read.
Bednarski was extremely inconsistent, but at least the team
responded. I hated seeing him throw a completion, then they ran
Kinder in for a play, then ran Bednarski back out, etc.
Coker looks done. Honestly, between the reduced role two years
ago, the injury last year, and the injury this offseason, I
think he's lost what little mobility he had. Take away his
power too, and add in a crappy O-Line, and he's finished. Stats
were 12 carries for 21 yds. Thats just poor.
O-Line was awful. I don't know if its an experience thing, or a
coaching issue. At least a dozen times I saw a pulling guard,
but the DE just flew through the hole, followed the guard, and
reached the RB in the backfield. That is a coaching problem.
The number of holds and chop blocks, thats gotta be on the
players.
Tye is returning punts because Davonte Anderson got hurt last
year returning a punt, and Priore doesn't want that to happen
again. I don't have a clue why they don't use DeShields. That
kid was an all-state returner throughout high school, and we
don't use him for anything else, so the risk is minimal.
The defense looked great. I'm hoping they survive the season.
They're going to get a lot of work.
The play calling was horrible.
Instead of listing the rest of my concerns, I'll point out our
season stats so far...
5 of 34 on 3rd down conversions
21 punts for 795 yards
19 penalties for 173 yards
6 punt returns for 17 yards (not counting the 12 fair catches)
No team puts up those kinds of numbers and wins games.
The defense will make sure we're in games. The offense will
make sure we don't win them.

Today was way to hot to play ball scorcher... these young men
were giving it there best in this heat.
Laxnation i can not believe how on your were with your calls..
anybody helping you with your knowledge of the game?
This is my read of the game..
Tye has to go back to a TE Set not put out as a WO; he looks &
plays totally out of place; he likes coming of the edge & he is
not being covered by the Corner or Safety.
Connor Or Carlos should be used at QB; it is very clear after
the game today...Connor showed some niice play action at QB.
We have big issue on the fron OL; go to a double TE set it will
help in the blocking....
Why are we running the ball on 3rd down 8 or more yards 75% of
the time; teams are stacking the line & they are shutting it
down. I give the Coaching on offensive side a D in this game.
The QB has to make his progression & find the open receiver; i
have heard that they get pissed when the QB doesn't go to his
first read.
There was some lack focus during key points in this game; the
ref were calling a tight game 3 calls we got i thought were not
justify. Two on QB hits & 1 on the kicker; even the Connecticut
fans i was sitting with thought it was a bad call.
Level drop 4 out of 6 passes; Kidner has no touch on his short
passes. They should of gotten the slot back & Coxson the ball
more; Coxson made on hell of a great catch on the side line.
I still don't like crashing the DE down the line; it leaves the
outside exposed to the run if the ILB gets blocked. I saw that
happen several times today.
Next week is a week to evaluate and try to resolve issues on
this team & also allow the players to heal; several players got
bang up in this game.
I applaud all the work the girls due for this team & program;
they really support the players.
Watching the game at this level & the young playing it really
make you think; these kids take a beating & if they didn't love
playing this game they would be crazy to be putting them self
through this ever week.
We sometimes come detached from this because if it doesn't
effect you directly you have no understanding of commitment
dedication & desire these kids have to play & play through there
injuries.
I am hopeful they can put together a some wins; just got home
after 5 1/2 of driving & now it's time to zzz out.

I attended the game too and have to agree with everyone who
posted on this board so far. Normally I do the bashing, but I'll
leave that up to everybody else now. I will say one thing
though. Had Bednarski started the game we would have won. As far
as all the terrible play calling yesterday, it goes back to all
of my post from last 2 years. If SB Football is ever going to be
better and have any chance of making it into to Playoffs again,
It's time to clean out the ENTIRE coaching staff and start over.
Yes, the ENTIRE staff.. I don't put blame on any of our kids for
their mistakes in blocking, receiving whatever, I put the entire
blame on our coaches for not teaching them the proper way to
play. Our kids have talent, but what good is it if coaches
aren't using you to your fullest ability..
There is no doubt we should have rolled over UCONN yesterday
even with our "not so good Offensive line". I am ****ed off as a
season ticket holder and have every reason to voice my opinion
on this topic. I really hope Shawn Heilbron makes the
appropriate changes to this organization and brings in some
higher and more talented coaching staff to turn us back around
to our winning ways.... I have all the reason in the world to
believe he will!!!!!!!

tho not mentioned too much, I thought Connor Davis and Rahim
Cassel looked very good. Davis is a high motor kids and he was
effective at lining up outside the offensive tackles and putting
on a good pass rush. not sure if he actually got any sacks, but
his pressure from the edge was a factor against UCONN. Cassell
seems to have fit in well at middle LB, adding some experience
to the LB corps. as others have mentioned, collectively the SB
D is playing fantastic. we just need to get a QB in there that
can sustain offensive drives, so the D can get some rest on the
sidelines. this week will be interesting as Coach P is
insisting that he is still going with the two QB approach. just
please dont sub in different QBs on a play by play basis. that
is hopeless approach.

The thing is, we shouldn't be rolling over UConn. UConn plays in
a higher division with a much bigger budget. Saturday was
frustrating because we easily could have won that game, but I
think the coaches deserve some credit for putting together a
team that can go up level and compete.
That said the first two weeks have been BRUTAL for us seawolf
fans, and I understand the frustration.

hang in there... i have a feeling most of the members on this
board remember the old days... the fact that we are competitive
with a regional team from a BCS conference is a giant
improvement. even as bad as UConn is these days...
for example- 2003 blown out against Gtown.

I even believe the D will get better if they stay healthy; i
just don't like sending the DE down the line it could be costly
on an outside running team or a team that plays the option. I
still see some technique issues that they also can improve on;
not getting too deep on the edge when pass rushing it leave a
big lane on the outside. We got caught on that a few times
against Connecticut; but this D is playing much better then i
thought they would Big Fan.
Connor just missed getting a sack in the 2 or 3 play of the
game; he hit the QB 1/2 second after he threw the ball. It was a
bad call by the ref; i thought the refs really were tough on
SBU.
Big Fan i believe they need to make a decision at QB; I just
don't see Kidner being the QB he second guesses himself to many
times & he doesn't look conformable in the pocket. He almost got
picked again late in the second half.
This next game will be a defining one at QB; if he can't move
the O against this team it's time to make the change. Connor
made 2 beautiful passes down the field; good touch on the deep
ball, i notice when he scrambles out of the pocket & try to make
a thow he is inconsistent & usually thows the ball very low.
Carlos has the quickest release & is very accurate in the short
game.
Coming home through all that rain 5 1/2 hours w tough... love of
the game & i enjoy being there.....
See ya up there next week; might come by train or car; but i
won't get back home until 3 am ouch....
