2014 Preseason Talk
By: sbufan Date: May 13, 2014, 12:31 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I thought I'd start a thread for summer/pre-season talk.
There has been a lot of talk about qb play. I'm genuinely not
very concerned. I liked what I saw from Hernandez and Bednarski
in the spring and think Kinder will push them in camp. The
bigger question as far as I'm concerned is whether the running
game can get back on track. If we can establish the run like we
had before last season, the passing game is going to look great.

Once they settled on Kenner the running gm was good. This yr I
don't think there will be any concern with the addition of
Bedell. Even if Coker isn't healthy I like the combo of Kenner
and Bedell, with Fredericks providing a solid backup. Remember
Priore already stated that if Coker is healthy then either
Kenner or Fredericks will redshirt so I think we will be good
for a while.

If Coker is healthy, they'll most likely redshirt Fredricks.
We'll have a very strong trio of backs. I just get nervous that
they'll stick 8+ in the box like we saw last year.
I have a feeling we'll be improved from last season, but some
type of passing game will be needed to keep the defense honest.

Croker is already participating in summer practice & should be
ready to go in August. QB may take time this summer or early
fall to develop; not a lot of game time experience.
They are strong at TE; and the team is bringing in 3 WR to
upgrade the position.
I think you will see a lot of 2 & 3 TE sets; and they will use
the TE a lot this season & it will help open up the running
game.
I am hopeful the O Line is set; it will be key in the running
game and pass D.
The D looks strong' I am hopeful the 2nd string is also strong.
Injury do happen & you depth n talent.

Pulled this off of the CAA website. 2014 FCS polls. not
unexpected, but SB not ranked in three preseason polls. I was
surprised to see Towson ranked so low, considering they finished
runner-up in FCS last season. I am sure that our lack of having
an established QB at this point in time hurts our chances of
being ranked.
CAA Football led all of the FCS in the Athlon College Football
Preseason Poll with seven teams ranked.
New Hampshire, which ended 2013 following an appearance in the
national semifinals, came in at the No. 4 spot, followed by 2013
preseason #CAAFB favorite Villanova (8) and last year's national
runner up, the Tigers of Towson (10). William & Mary (15),
Richmond (18), James Madison (22) and Delaware (23) round out
the league's teams in this poll.
In the 2014 Lindy's College Football Preseason Poll, CAA
Football again led the pack nationally with five schools
selected. UNH earned the No. 5 spot, William & Mary came in at
No. 12, Towson closely followed at No. 14, Villanova following
the same trend at No. 16, and Richmond capped the group at No.
23.
In the Sporting News preseason 2014 poll, Villanova headlined
the league's teams in the No. 5 spot, followed by New Hampshire
(No. 7), Richmond (No. 12), Towson (No. 15) and William & Mary
(No. 23). The Big Sky conference tied the league with five
selections in this poll.

Stony Brook to sell Season Parking passes for $75 to ticket
holders to park in the Stadium lot. Otherwise, to park there on
a game-by-game basis it will be $10 bucks. They are serious
about making money, god sake. Tailgating close to the stadium
wont be free anymore. Those days are over

I was told they did this because of the cost associated with
using security and campus police on game days.. Not sure how
true that is, but I am sure there is some cost associated with
security!!!

Its okay. I honestly don't think its a big deal. This is the
price of having a better program and a bigger audience. Revenue
generation is as crucial as it has ever been for SBU Athletics
and $10 wont hurt too much. My only worry is that they may be
doing this too fast(combine this with the Basketball ticket
prices going up 100%) and alienate some fans. I hope that
doesn't happen. One thing I know is that I Can't wait for
Football to start. Less than 60 days!
Can't wait to go to East Hartford and beat up on UCONN. LOL

I was told by the ticket office at the spring gm that this was
done cause a few season ticket holders complained that they
couldn't find spots in the stadium lot. I have never had a
problem parking in that lot. They should know that you need to
get there a little early cause that is the main tailgait lot. I
just don't like being charged because of certain people feeling
entitled. If I arrive late I then know that I might not get a
spot in the stadium lot. Nothing I hate more than grown ups
crying that something isn't fair!!!
