I meant his entire background has been big time athletics
and bodes well now that he is a Seawolf . For the AE he is a
big fish right now in a small pond, I'm very optimistic about
our athletic departments future..
To me it stands for success, it stands for pride, it
stands for integrity and it stands for winners,” said Heilbron.
“That’s what we’re going to build that brand around and make
sure when coaches recruit and when we’re trying to connect with
fans on Long Island and in New York State

Heilbron believes the fans are out there, though. “We can
be Long Island’s program, that should be our immediate goal,” he
said. “There are 3 million people on Long Island, there are 3
million people right now in the state of Oregon.”
Our future is bright I'm sure. Just need to expand the fan
base and keep winning on a regular basis. I think our new
AD will lead us upward overtime.

athletes get iPads
HTML http://www.stonybrookathletics.com/genrel/080615aaa.html
This program will benefit all Stony Brook
student-athletes academically and allow them to have greater
ease of access to online information, blackboard, learning apps
and e-textbooks as a result of having their own individual iPad.
In addition, there will be new and creative opportunities to
push video and messaging to our student-athletes in a timely
manner to benefit their athletic performance.
"There is no question that providing iPads to each of our
student-athletes will enhance their Stony Brook experience and
impact their lives in a positive and productive way," Stony
Brook Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron said. "I am grateful
to our colleagues with the Division of Information Technology
for their work on rolling out this critical initiative."

i dont know if any of you guys are getting the Together We
Transform Thursday messages from the athletic dept. a lot of
good in this latest one:
Academy of Leaders
One of the new initiatives this year that I was very
excited about was the creation of the Academy of Leaders. The
Academy of Leaders (or AOL, as we call it) consists of two
influential student-athletes from each team who meet with me
monthly to discuss issues, share ideas and provide feedback
about their experience at Stony Brook. One of the most critical
aspects of the AOL is to provide valuable leadership training.
We hosted the AOL last week for a two-day workshop that gave our
students firsthand exposure to prominent business leaders and
opportunities to network with successful alumni. We also took
the group on a trip to Manhattan where our student-athletes met
with one of our most generous supporters, Glenn Dubin. It was
impactful when Glenn shared his story about wanting to work on
Wall Street after graduating from Stony Brook but being rejected
by the first 29 firms that he interviewed with. On his 30th
interview, he finally received a job offer and his message was
to learn from every experience while constantly working to
improve yourself along the way.
Electric Atmosphere
Friday night's men's basketball game was incredible to
experience on so many levels.
A new attendance record of 4,109 was set as Island Federal
Credit Union Arena was completely sold out for the second time
in its two-year history.
Even though the game ended after 11 p.m., I went home and
re-watched the ESPNU broadcast on my DVR. It made me incredibly
proud to see how well the arena showed on television and served
as a showcase for Stony Brook. Our goal is to have opportunities
for national television exposure in the future as it further
enables us to highlight our incredible university. I must admit
that I woke up Saturday morning and watched it again. It was
even better the second time!
Victor Ochi Makes His Mark
The game is an annual all-star showcase for top NFL
prospects and was broadcast nationally on the NFL Network.
Watching the game, it quickly turned into a Victor Ochi
infomercial as the announcers were gushing with praise for him.
P.S. Just after I wrote this earlier on Thursday, I ran in to
Will Tye in the hallway. Will told me that he is busier now than
he was during the season. Success brings opportunities off of
the field, and Will is living proof!
wow, watches the game after the game and then again in the
morning. you have to like the enthusiasm.
