Good find, SBU.
I've only watched about 10 minutes of game action and
Uniondale's drawn about 15 charges already.
I haven't seen Almonacy in person and only watched about a half;
maybe I'll catch the rest sometime this week. First impression:
There's some real good things there. It seems he got into the
lane at will and did a nice job finding open shooters. Pretty
shooting stroke. On the flipside, I'll bet if you asked him who
his favorite player was he'd say Steph Curry. Played like him;
that's not a compliment in this instance. A few looooong threes
(OK when they go in all the time), one-handed passes,
possessions off, and he was virtually invisible defensively. I
didn't like the intensity. Again, first impression, small sample
size, but a big spot for him you'd think and I didn't see the
gear I was looking for.
I did watch Alomancy play in person last week at Ward Melville
High School...Coach P and and a few Stony Brook Basketball
players were at the game watching...... My very first impression
is he's very small, barely 6'. He does have decent speed, not
fast like Purifoy and does a good job finding the open man in
the post. He is also a sharpshooter and was hitting 3s from NBA
range the entire game.. He is still raw when he drives to the
basket and on many occasions had the ball striped away.. I think
Coach P can groom him to be a very good PG in the AE.. He is no
a Stephen Curry so don't expect that style of playing from him
next season..
I don't want NBA range threes. I want high school threes. To me
that's just poor shot selection/decision making, and if he's
doing that in front of his future college coaches, wow, that
just isn't very smart. You can hoist one from there at any point
on the shot clock. It is a last resort. Steph Curry has made
these long-range threes cool, but it's only cool if you make
them with regularity, which he does. If Almonacy makes 77 in a
row during practice like Curry has, then I'll loosen the leash.

According to his coach, Andrew Garcia is getting season ending
surgery on Friday. Don't know what the injury is, but I'll guess
he ends up redshirting next year as he rehabs.

Unbelievable! He was suppose to be McGrew immediate replacement.
I guess incoming G, Almonacy will have to take that roll..

There's still one scholly left open for next season, and the
team has been very quiet about it for a long time. Hope they
having something big up their sleeves!!

We should probably see what info we can find on its severity
before we count him out for the next 18 months. I'm thinking
knee too, but that's purely conjecture.
We haven't mined the juco ranks much (I know it can be dicey).
Tyquan Scott (6-7/210) was a beast at Long Beach and is off to a
nice start at Herkimer. He was a high jumper in HS. No idea on
academics.
Check out these ups:

Heck, we'll take Pat Dorrian on the basketball team too if he
can play baseball for us in the spring.

Even if it's not a knee, Pikiell likes to redshirt freshman when
he can (Walker, Nyama, Mitchell, Campbell, Yeboah etc). I think
it's a pretty safe bet we won't see Garcia play next year.

im liking more and more what I see from sturdy. of course,
tough to replace warney, but then again, he is really a once in
a generation player. i might even tear up a bit when he
graduates.

Hoping and assuming Campbell and Yeboah can contribute next
year, I think it will be a very tight pack in the AE with the
likes of UMBC/Bing/Maine continuing to improve and SBU dropping
off perhaps not as much as some might think. Everyone could be
around .500, and it will all depend on who's hot in March.
But I have to stop thinking about that now....we have a run to
finish this year!

I see next years starters as Woodhouse, Sekunda, Walker and
Campbell . Maybe Sturdivant or Nyamma with Alomancy filling in
behind Woodhouse. Puriefoy did the same thing with Dougher in
his Freshman year.

In my opinion, Woodhouse, Sekunda, Walker and Nyama are locks,
and I'd be surprised if Sturdivant wasn't the fifth. Of course,
this is without seeing the redshirts or the incoming players,
but that's still a solid first five. Nyama started all 35 games
as a freshman; he should definitely be on that list. Tyrell's
done enough with the time he's gotten to get a chance.
It isn't as brawny as this year's team with Jameel and Rayshaun
and more like what we see from most AE teams.
