ive been saying that for a few years now, no? STOP shooting
threes. this aint the NBA where the top players can hit 55% if
unguarded. im sure there's a not so exact study out there that
takes field goal % for threes and twos and calculates the delta
of opportunities and points. its simple math, but not water
tight. an untrained eye can tell you that we get into three
trouble, as do many other teams.

Pikiell has forgotten more about basketball than you'll ever
know. That's certainly one. I didn't miss a home game all
season and attended a few road games. America East teams all
know each other's styles so the reason the 3-point shot was
better early in the year can be attributed to non-conference
games and the lack of film available. You don't put blame on
the players? I didn't see Pikiell in the box score. I've
actually never seen a coach in the box score. Did Stony Brook
lose to Buffalo in football because the play-calling by the OC
and DC were ineffective? No. They lost because the field goal
kicker missed a bunch of times. If you have so many issues with
the coach, stop supporting the team.

captaind21... Sounds like you're more frustrated then all of us
on this board.. Your comments are clearly showing that... This
Forum was created for Fans to post compliments, insults thought
and doubts.. Just because a few of us who are vocal, have some
concerns with play calling this year, we should not stop
cheering for our favorite sport team..
Coach Pikiell has brought this program up from Div3 to 1 in
short order and we all appreciate that however, SB is now
playing at a different plateau and should be making the NCAA by
now. The AE is a weak conference outside of Vermont and Albany
even though it's a one bid conference, we should have taken at
least 1 out of 3 Championship away from the others!!!!

I don't doubt that Pikiell has a ton of basketball knowledge.
But he also should not be beyond reproach.
Besides the obvious questions regarding substitution patterns
and game-planning, I have to wonder if he's inside his own head.
Will Brown obviously sold his team on the fact that SBU folds
under pressure. And we were kind enough to oblige.
We could have used Mitchell to force them to close out on a
shooter, then get it into McGrew (who was playing great) or
Warney. Instead, with Jackson and Coley off their games, we let
Albany off the ropes by running the shot-clock down and ask them
to shoot jumpers. Alternatively, we could have run inside out,
instead of having Warney/McAlister at the top of the key, keep
them in the paint, run backscreens, and get open looks that way.
Pick and rolls with a PF doesn't work, especially not when
everyone knows its coming.
Also, defensively, Coley should've been on Hooley the whole
game, keeping Puriefoy on Evans. Instead, the constant
shuffling led to open shots. This happened a ton against
Vermont too.
Honestly, I think we have better athletes than any other team in
the AEast. But Vermont is more technically sound, and Albany is
more mentally sound. When the dust settles, we ended up where
we should have, losing in the finals. Only I would've expected
us to lose @ Patrick instead of Pritchard.
*This rant was brought to you by Section 102 and entirely way
too much NyQuil...
