Sorry for that off topic post. I'm a bit under the weather I
guess...
Attedance was poor. Not more than 4k. About 100 students in the
endzone. Not what I expected.
SBU and Albany continue to draw the same anemic crowd from the
old NEC days

I think this ending to the season bodes well for next year.
Considering the injury-plaugued season, once a few of the key
players got back on their feet the team showed some muster and
desire. Just think, Tye, Kenner, Fredericks and Coker will be
back, as will several excellent young defensemen. Also, some
real good freshman redshirted this year. I'm encouraged.

I have two majors concerns for next year. One is the obvious,
Quarterback.. I've been saying all season we need a double or
triple option Q who can grow with the team, no more starting
seniors who only play for one season..... Carlos Hernadez and
Pat D'Amatto are unproven at this time.. AJ Otranto could be a
quarterback to keep an eye on for next season This position is
the key to next year success in the CAA..... The second major
concern is the DB..... I know we have some young DB this year
who were outplayed on many occasions.. If we can bring in some
Juco or FBS transfers, that would shore up that breach in the
defense. ..... Our DL and linebackers got a A- this season..
They played real well with many RB being stuffed.. ON Offense,
we lose some seniors on the left side. Lets hope we bring in
some more big beef on that side, like Arthur Dokes...... TE,,
What can I say we are sold with Will Tye coming back and Connor
Davis will be a Sophomore,,,,With his height, 6'8" we are
looking sweeeeeet ... I think in the RB position, we are strong
assuming Coker is ok to play, but we're very deep with Kenner,
and Fredericks and Poteat recovering....At WR, we lose Malcom
Eugene huge problem for us. Coxson is will be a senior next year
but he was taken away by ambulance yesterday, condition unknown
. Lets hope it's not a carrier ending injury. One or two Juco
transfers with height could really help in this dept....

Well, Hammer, I guess I'm just a little bit more optimistic than
you are--here's some of the reasons why:
1) You've forgotten the most probable starting QB next
year--Conor Bednarski; and I think he has the potential to be a
really good one.
2) You mention Coxson returning, but I believe Jahrie Level
(who's displayed some great hands and speed in hi limited
action) is likely to really come into his own at WR.
3) Re: DBs, I'm still hopeful that Reuben Johnson and Davonte
Anderson may be considered for medical redshirts this year based
upon their season-ending injuries. Also, there are some pretty
good freshman coming up--at LB also.
All that being said, you know that Priore is going to come up
with a few terrific transfers. He always does.

Gold, I agree with you assessment of the QB prospects.
Bednarski arrived last January with more than 20 college games
under his belt at the JUCO level. he redshirted this season and
must be the front runner for next season. I understand we open
the season in Cincinnati, who are 9-2 right now. I think we
will need a solid kid under center next year as we open up on
the road with a very tough game.
Hammer: Coach P does not need a double or triple option QB, we
don't run that kind of offense. we need a kid that can complete
60-70% of his pass attempts, while keeping the defenses honest
by being able to throw the ball down field when needed. While
Negron was a warrior this season, he was wildly inconsistent.
we need consistent play out of the QB position next year to be
successful.
On the subject of SB offense schemes, I listened to the webcast
of the game yesterday, and the color announcer kept mentioning
how Coach P's main offensive approach is the ground and pound
running attack. I wonder if he has been reading this board, and
our hopes that the offense will be opened up a bit in the
future, and move away from the traditional Old School Running
Game that Coach P loves.
Here's to SB lining up some nice non-conference games for next
season. I still think a home/home with Sam Houston State would
be sweet, along with some quality local foes like Leghie (sp)

BFF. I agree and know Priore does not run that type of offense,
and why is that. It's because he never had to. Stepping up to
the CAA as we are all aware now, is extremely tough. Teaching or
recruiting a Quarterback to be a double option player only adds
to the diversity that is needed in this league.. Why do you
think all the TV announcer say " Ground and pound" It's because
we did that for years and everybody knows that and it worked
very well in the BS but, in the CAA and against some FBS schools
you need to have a 52 deck of cards at your disposal if the
ground and pound isin't working.....Having another bullet in the
chamber is a good thing in a gunfight !!!!!

Hopefully we get one of the new guys to play at QB
Bednarski would be ideal. Also need offensive lineman,
linebackers and defensive backs. Let a new guy develop into
the QB spot rather than lose him after one season. Even in the
NFL it takes awhile to develop a good seasoned QB. OOC teams
would love a home and away with Lehigh. Sam Houston St or even
a Citadel or Furman. All are solid programs. Well now onto
hoops then lax and baseball. waiting to see who we sign for
football though.

Don't forget Carlos Hernandez he has good field of vision & make
quick reads & he usually gets rid of the ball within 2 to 2 1/2
seconds.
How about the play of the TE Connor; he hasn't played DE since
August 2012. He was able to put pressure on the QB several times
& 1 sack.
They needed players to step up n help at hey positions.

ecasadoSBU: I meant to respond to your post from yesterday
sooner. I feel your pain as you move on from the student
section to the sideline seats. I guess that is a stage of life.
sounds like the weather, the small crowd and the rather
meaningless game (in terms of a playoff run), make the malaise
all the greater. lost of good SBU sports ahead this winter and
before you know it, it will be time for spring football 2014
once again.
hopefully games against the likes of Bryant and Colgate are
things of the past. we have Albany and Rhody as the patsies of
the CAA, that is enough "easy" games in the season schedule.
one more note: I got an email from the SB Athletics Dept
yesterday regarding the internet video feed. they said they
plan to upgrade the quality of the internet feed for next
season. that will be a big plus for those of us that cant
travel to the home games.
