Should be a great game. Although UB coming with a 0-2 record,
they played two difficult FBS opponents. They will be super
motivated to not lose third time against an FCS opponent and
with SUNY bragging rights on the line. I expect a close hard
faught and hard hitting gane with UB edging out 24-20.
       I hope I am wrong.

Its not gonna be an easy task. Definitely not... But I don't
like the stance many Buffalo fans are taking making it seem like
its impossible. Undue arrogance in their part. Better FBS/BCS
teams have fallen to FCS powers before (especially this year)
and Buffalo is not a national power by any means last time i
       checked...
SBU is a good football team. We no longer have the first FBS win
pressure on us. This team can do it

Is it any wonder UB fans are confident on our recent FCS
matchups, since our team backs it up? We've seen it all from FCS
       fans.
AGS thread of the Gardner-Webb @ UB game in 2010, where fans
actually believed G-W had a chance. UB won 40-3:

AGS threads on FBS upsets which picked SBU in 2011. You know the
       result:

Let's recap 2011. SBU excelled after the UB loss and reached the
2nd round. UB was picked to finish 6th in the MAC East, only
garnering 28 voting points. We finished in that spot with 2
other wins besides SBU. We only started 4 SR's on both sides of
the ball vs SBU. All TD's in that game were scored by players on
the UB roster today. The stars of that game, Oliver, Mack,
       Neutz, Hughes, Dennison, were Sophs/R-Fr.
Fast-forward to today. UB received votes toward 4th in the MAC
East, 7th overall, with 101 vote points (1 first-place vote). We
return 17 of 22 starters and all our specialists. Our top 3
running backs on last season's depth chart, who combined to play
in only 6 games, are all healthy. Mack is on multiple national
award watch lists and Mel Kiper has him #13 on his big board.
Neutz, Oliver, and CB Najja Johnson are all on national award
       watch lists. Our OL goes 310, 320, 320, 326, 327, much bigger
than our 2011 line. Besides Mack rushing from OLB at 6'3" 248,
       our 3-man front is 273, 300, 293, also bigger than the 2011
front which stymied SBU drives for 3 quarters.
With all that returning talent and a lighter MAC schedule,
multiple national reviews predict UB will become bowl eligible.
The point being, we are much better than the first go round.
I've read many points from here, AGS, the AE board, and there
doesn't appear to be the same certainty about Stony Brook's
improvement from impressive 2011 and 2012 squads. In posts
regarding upsets, where would it develop, outside of a massive
turnover fest by UB a la Army?

They should beat us, they have more scholarships and
consequently more roster depth. If we win, or final score is
close but we lose, it's a WIN for us. Basically, if UB does not
       blow us out, they lose!

The depth advantage going deep into games can sometimes help FBS
vs FCS, but FBS teams must have size, talent, and desire too.
Army players don't receive athletic scholarships, since all
cadets are covered cost wise. Their roster usually has 140-150
players, but that didn't help them against you guys last year.

The best indicator from last year would be Syracuse. Army was
small and as we know one dimensional. We led the Orange at
half and lost 28-17. I could see Saturday as UB 34 SBU 21
. We will stay with them for awhile . Depth will be factor for
       sure.

The point is UB fans should not be bragging or be happy for
that matter about beating an FCS team, your an FBS team that's
what your supposed to do. That would be the same way for us if
we got excited to beat Div II C.W.Post. This game should be
viewed as an extra home gm meaning one more time to tailgait,
that's it. UB doesn't want to lose to Stony Brook, but again if
beating us is what your worried about then your priorities are
messed up. Win or lose this will not dictate how we play the
rest of the year. This is a building block gm and a money grab
for SB and it will not define the team or the program. Being a
fan and alum of SB, I would much rather see our FCS team play
towards a playoff birth and potential National Title run then
root for my team to win 6 gms so it can play in some bowl
sponsored by a muffler company. The last time I checked most FBS
teams have 300+ pound lineman but that didn't stop quite a few
of them from losing in week 1. As far as Mel Kiper goes he once
thought that Jamarcus Russell was a can't miss prospect and that
Russell Wilson was a reach in the 3rd round. we all know how
that turned out. Like I said your supposed to win, just watch
       what you wish for.
