Stony Brook Cheerleaders

I wasn't sure where to put this post so i thought starting a new
topic was appropriate . What are your thoughts in regards to our
Cheerleaders. I really don't know how to say it and I've been
known to be blunt, and not sugarcoating things but SB Athletic
should invest some more time into finding, lets say, hotter
chicks !!! I don't wan't to offend anyone on this board or the
SB cheerleaders and I apologize if I just did but I think
finding the most attractive and talented SB student to be a
cheerleader would only improve ticket sales and increase
exposure to the Sports programs !
Lets use the Clemson Tide Cheerleaders for example. Maybe I'm
asking too much ???
Again, If I offend just one person then I will remove this post
!!

LOL. Its a delicate topic but I'll have to say I agree. Overall,
the cheer leading team needs more funding but I guess that can
only come if we get more funding for athletics in general.
I think cheerleading in the Northeast is not as highly regarded
as in other areas of the country (i.e Southeastern) but it is
definitely a nice plus to have for those crowds that are
interested in more than just plain-old basketball.
I particularly pay little attention to the cheer leading team
when i attend basketball games, but i had other guy friends that
would always make comments about the girls

Hammer, there's nothing wrong with wanting attractive
cheerleaders. I hope political correctness doesn't infect this
board. I'm not certain, but I don't think SB gives scholarships
to cheerleaders. Other schools do. For example, Liberty's
football cheerleaders were fairly hot AND they performed some
pretty good gymnastics moves. The difference between the two
squads was noticeable. Yes, I'd PREFER to watch attractive
cheerleaders, but I go to the games to watch the guys (no, not
in that way)

ry1nik. I agree. I of course go to all the Football and
Basketball games to watch our Athletes play. I've even gone to
the SB girls Basketball game, again to watch the Athletes play
not the Cheerleaders doing their thing. With that said, I still
think having really talented and attractive Cheerleaders could
only help with the SB Athletic Brand. If SB attracts just 2
percent more Fans because of hotter Cheerleaders, why not !!!
I seriously doubt SB cheerleaders are given scholarships to
perform, unlike some of the marching bands performers do, but
i'm sure they could find some girls who are quite, well, you get
the idea, well in dow$,,,,to join the team.. lol !!!!

Wow, I wasn't aware of that. They hand out scholarships for
cheerleading? That's explains it. There is like a world of a
difference between the cheer leading teams in the football
schools of the south and the schools in the north east. Those
girls down south are all hotties and more skilled, our girls are
just average.

In most cases they're not full scholarships like the athletes
receive. Here's the link.

I don't see SB name offering cheerleader scholarship on that web
only st. Johns . I was told SB does offer some scholarship for
their Marching Band though. I'm not 100% certain of that ..
According to that site, schools that do offer scholarship for
cheerleading only give out few hundred bucks per semester .. I
don't see a reason why SB can't absorb that $$$ to recruit some
really good girls !!!!

could be wrong, but i was always under the impression that the
big football schools awarded scholarships to cheerleaders
because it helps balance out the 90+ scholarships for football
under title IX. any thoughts?
of course, that doesnt work as well when some of the
cheerleaders are male. which is the case at some schools.

No. Cheerleading is not a Sport in the NCAA and is not covered
under title IX
