My disappointment comes from the fact that this is pretty much
our best program and my expectation of the program were to be
competitive in the national landscape yearly after such a great
run to the NCAA in 2010. Its not the one-goal loses that are
killing me, I could take a few of those, but seven at this
point? that is not good, and you can't justify that with the
loss of a talented class. I expected a better season at this
point (something like 5-3). We wont be taken seriously until we
can consistently put good teams out there.
But I'm hopeful about the conference season. There still many
games to be played and these guys can turn it around and win the
conference. The only thing that would save this season in my
opinion is getting back to the AE championship game...

You're not looking at this properly. This is NOT a coaching
issue. Nagle is doing fine, considering this isn't a roster he
knows well and most of the talent he brought in is a redshirt or
coming this Fall. This is a faceoff issue. In lacrosse, teams
overperform and underperform based upon their faceoff
statistics. We rallied to take UVA to overtime not because of
some magical call by Sowell, but because Rand won 3 straight
faceoffs at the end of the game, took the ball up the field
himself, then got it to an Attackman who fired.
Look at our stats now - we couldn't win a faceoff if the other
team forgot to put their guy on the field! All that given, we're
playing very well for a team that gets the ball <50% of the
time. I always give a new coach a year. We got a TOP faceoff guy
coming in next year. I'll take a poor showing in this one if
only to show how important the big three were to us.

Stop with the we. You're not part of the team. They lost three
all-time lacrosse greats. It's going to take some time. Stop
with the "this season is a disappointment". The non-conference
season is meaningless. There's a reason why there's an
automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Just a bunch of bandwagon
       fans

LOL.... is this guy serious? ^^^
if the out of conference season is meaningless then why schedule
       them?
and no comments about the bandwagon fans... :)
also. anyone can use "we" to refer to the team. It is common for
fans to use "we"... So suggesting to us not to use "we" won't do
       much...
WE are the red hot seawolves of SBU
We never stop fighting until the battle is through...

first of all, it's non-conference, not out of conference. Why
       schedule them? because you'd have a five-game season. That's
why. Look at a team like Villanova. Look at a team like Navy.
Struggled through non-conference play but is 3-1 in the Patriot
League. You think Coach Sowell was worried about losing to
North Carolina and Jacksonville. It meant nothing. It's
conference time and Stony Brook is primed for success.

THe whole conference is down with only 9 wins between the six
teams. We've played everyone tough. Hopefully we can get
Campbell and Belton back, figure out the faceoff to some extent,
and make a run at NCAA's. I certainly don't think any of that is
       out of the question.

Non-conference games are important and should matter to all
fans. Yes, it's good winning the conference and going to the
NCAA's, but if a team messes up in its non-conference games,
they get a bottom seed in the tournament and it's "one and
done." Because SBU has had such an underperforming athletic
program for a major university for so long (not assigning blame,
just making an observation), we've made "conference
championship" as the measure of ultimate success. I'm looking
forward to the day when winning the conference AND getting past
the first round— whether it's in basketball, football (where it
actually may happen this year), baseball, or lacrosse— is the
       prize...and not just winning a championship in a bottom-dwelling
conference. To do that, you have to win non-conference games to
get anything but a bottom seed.

Ok everyone back from the ledge. Here's my (unsolicited)
       thoughts-
-its no mystery why the team is struggling; new faces, new
       coaches, large departures
-record isnt as bad as it looks. teams like Fairfield are
really solid this year. plus, one goal losses, OT, goals waived
       off, etc.
-ball can only bounce away from you so many times. theyll get
some bounces. perfect, as its conference time.
-flags are way down, plagued this team early on
-though Nagle plays a bit of a slower offense, turnovers are way
down (10-12 total a game). when you cant win a faceoff, this
may be considered a "must run" offense
-clearing is as good as it gets, over 90% i estimate. this will
       help with TOP also
-goalie situation isnt great, but theyve all played fine for the
most part, which is a good sign
-theyre not yet good at playing with a lead- theyve blown a lead
in every loss this year. the hallmark of a young/new team
-campbell/belton/greene are hurt. these are not just starters,
       but seniors and team leaders
-the new team leaders or "veterans" are a hodgepodge of
transfers, guys from the Sowell era, new faces, etc. This will
       get better
Hang in there guys- have faith in Nagle & Co, they will improve
and it will all just be fine. Dont be the impatient "i want
blood" type. Be patient. Winning takes time. This is when the
       real fans come out.
As i keep saying- if you accept this premise- that they can
easily win 2+ conference games- and this premise- that they can
plausibly win two AE tourney games- then youll find this team
having gone farther than the star studded 2011 team. And
       wouldnt that be interesting.

Finally, a wonderful win by our boys. Note the game play
changes... good coaching. Great plays by our players.
