I meant what other D1 options are available to AE as oppose to
Lowell from D2.

I don't like the UMass-Lowell addition at all!! Is it just me,
or doesn't this take the prestige of AE Conference down a notch
by dipping into D-II for an addition? It seems to me that there
are probably a number of programs that would like to join a
conference with UVM and SBU in it--even if they are not being so
outspoken about it quite yet. Bryant would certainly be a
better choice, but any number of programs from NE or MAAC, for
example, would be better than UMass (Lowell) IMHO.
My bottom line is that I hope the AE does not rush to make a
move until things settle out a little bit more, just to get one
or two more additions, unless they're truly quality additions.
SBU, of course, should take the same approach before prematurely
jumping to another conference. If the program keeps winning the
way they have been, many invitations are likely to follow.

I would have lked to see a Siena or Marist make the jump. Both
are in the MAAC both have lax and decent basketball programs and
are sound in academics. U Mass Lowell played against us back
in our D3 days so they havent moved far in the last 15 years.

As I said, it's not to my liking, but here it is
nonetheless--with the NJIT reference, as well.

Well Sbugold. This is not the first time the AE picks up
Division II schools. Remember that they were the ones that gave
the SUNY a break by allowing us 10-13 years ago. But that's not
my problem with Umass-L... UmassL is simply not at the level of
any AE research University. But I'm sure they will improve in
the future... There is not much we can do afterall. No one wants
to be in the AE so we are left without much choice

George Mason announced today they are joining the A10 on July 1.
With Old Dominion and Georgia State also leaving the CAA at the
end of this school year that leaves the CAA with only 9 teams.
There probably will be some new talk about SBU joining the CAA.
The CAA needs to rebuild and SBU has a lot to offer. Maybe
Hofstra's lack of excitement about SBU being a part of the CAA
(if that is true) will not matter quite as much considering
where the CAA is at now.
If Dayton and St Louis leave the A10 after next year for the new
Big East (as has been rumored all over) - and once the SB Arena
gets opened - there might be room for SBU in the A10. That is
jumping a few levels but the way the athletic program is
developing in all sports hopefully - in a few years - that would
be a possible fit because it is hard to imagine a better spot
for SBU long term.

Oh boy. This is getting closer and closer to us every day. Hold
on tight! Forget the CAA!

I would love to see them in he A10, but think the CAA will
eventually be our home for all Div1 sports... I guess SBB going
into the CAA is better then staying in to AE !!

For those wondering... considering the changes above, the A10:

And the CAA:
