Future of America East
By: iBOsbu Date: January 15, 2013, 1:07 pm

I was wondering if anyone heard anything new with regard to AE
adding new member? Last I heard, was few weeks ago, that Bryant
might be a candidate. I hope it was more than just a rumor. I
just hope AE adds couple of good members soon and be done with
(like PL did with BU and Loyola and MAAC did with QU and
Monmouth).
Bryant is doing excellent this year so far and would be a great
addition. If AE waits too long, they might end up in MAAC or PL.
Besides Bryant, I am not sure who else would be a quality
addition. CCSU seems blah. NJIT has potential. Old AE, current
CAA, members are not going to come back with $1m exit fee.
AE leadership needs to act soon.

I think the conference is in a holding pattern. They want to
see who gets poached out of the A10 by the Catholic 7 and who
may wind up in the A10. Bryant would be a great pickup and they
seem eager to join. Solid in hoops and lacrosse. Time will tell,
hey we may wind up somewhere other than the AE.

i know! After everying settles down, we might not even be in AE!
Althought it seems for now, SBU is happy in AEC, and for that
reason, I really hope AEC strenghten by adding quality available
members.

Don't any of you think that Wagner or LIU Brooklyn would make
for nice rivalries?

I was thinking the same thing, but SB basketball and all of
their NCAA sport programs would need to show continue growth in
the AEC and win a couple conference championship before a move
out, A move into the MAC would be fine with me!!!! I would think
thats how it works !!! Any you college NCAA experts know what it
takes for a school to move from one conference to another!!!!!!

We dont have any history with Wagner or LIU Brooklyn and they
are very different institutions comparing to AEC members... IMO,
a good rivalry would be something like we have with Albany! I
would prefer a large public university, in the same peer level
as other AEC universities. Too bad a strong program like BU left
to PL.
A move to MAC would be good, but we years behind such a move so
its an unrealising thinking now. JMU, UD and others are in much
better position than us, and can't get into MAC. Umass and
Buffalo would have been great rivals though.
I like where AEC stands now, just wish we had couple of more
well known members that would excite our fanbase. I really wish
teams like Hofstra, Northeastern, UD come back to AEC. But that
will never happen. They seem to be happy there. Northeastern are
at the top of CAA at the moment!
Thats why Bryant would be a good add, although a smaller
institution. They have good basketball, lacross and soccer
programs.
I guess we just have to be patient and see what happens with C7
and A10. That will shape much of north-east midmajor
conferences.

I guess I must have misled everybody in my last reply. I wasn't
suggesting that SBU should move to the MAC; I kind of like most
of the teams in the AE. I was hoping that maybe teams like LIU
or Wagner could come over to the AE. But, I guess you're
right--it would be better to entice some more similar
universities (e.g. Rhode Island; maybe they'll eventually figure
out that the move to A10 wasn't such a great idea)

Hold on tight. No moves yet until this realignment settles down.
Moving right now is too risky especially when you have to wait a
year or two to actually move to the new conference. That "two"
year requirement has proved to be deadly for schools that jumped
the gun. i.e: What the hell is Temple going to do next year when
the Basketball teams join the Big east as the entire conference
has pretty much fallen apart. Lets wait, become the brand name
of the AE, continue upgrading facilities (LaValle should be the
next one on the list especially if want to go FBS), and continue
growing our fan base.
The move is bound to happen but lets make sure we ready for it
first. I like the AE members right now and the conference
provides us ability to compete and be at the top. Its a great
conference. A year ago I wanted SBU to leave asap but now I just
think is best if we hold on and build some winning tradition
here

Ditto
btw Rhode Island would be a perfect addition to AE, but I would
be very surprised if that ever happens!
