Ouch again- those were my NY Football Giants that got trounced
by five TDs!!! ???
Suppose i deserve that after the Jets/Cowboys comments. I can
still make fun of the Eagles right?

I don't mind boring. Hell, I spend my off-season watching Mets
baseball, so this is nothing!
My concern isn't what MSU will do on defense. I'm pretty
confident that SBU will be able to run the ball at least
somewhat effectively. I think the matchup that will decide the
game is McGhee vs the SBU pass defense.
We run a very conventional defense, but primarily rushing only
our down linemen (heavy with stunts, twists, etc, but not
blitz-crazy). The defense goes almost a Cover 2 shell, but that
leaves the middle open for the short passing game and relies on
our LB's and DB's making tackles. And thats where we get into
trouble at least a couple of times a game.
I'm not overly concerned about the MSU running game (don't get
me wrong, i'm sure they are very good), but i'm more concerned
that McGhee just nickels and dimes us until he breaks one.
And making fun of the Eagles is acceptable. Always. Especially
after their fans booed Santa Claus.

jag; your defensive scheme is not very different from ours.
I agree that we will not be able to shut your run game down
entirely, but we will limit it a lot
Yes the MSU O vs SBU D will be an interesting match-up, I think
we will probably struggle to run on you early, but we will be
able to run as the game goes on, our passing game will likely
have more success.

Cats running strategy - pound our heads into the wall until the
wall cracks (or doesn't). The blowout wins have been when the
ground game gets going early - then the whole field opens up and
we are too balanced that when defenses get on their heels, it's
over.
McGhee can still move the ball when the run game is being shut
out (our offensive line just isn't strong enough sometimes
against teams built to stop the run), but it really limits what
we can do and how effective our passing game is.
The blueprint to contain the MSU offense - stuff the box, play
press man-coverage, and have a spy on McGhee. Take away
McGhee's options. Easier said than done obviously. Your DL
looks fast which will bode well for chasing McGhee when he
escapes the pocket.
The Cats can hit you with their own duo of talented running
backs though. Kirk is the power, 20+ carries a game, guy who
wears defenses down and DBs get tired of tackling. Davis have
much more east-west ability and quickness. My guess is Kirk
will start the game and through 1-2 quarters if he isn't finding
success, the Cats will try Davis who can hit holes a lot faster
than Kirk.
